Huner pretty much said he was not coming back after the election. He also said he wasn't coming back after he moved to Alabama. I like the guy, but I question the sanity of anyone that moves to Alabama?

I'd say the same, but have you been to Huntsville lately? If I were still working, that would definitely be a place to check out for anybody in engineering and computing.

Redstone Arsenal (Army base) is beginning to look like a campus for defense contractors and agencies like the FBI and ATF. It's actually one of the finalists for the Space Command HQ, but that's probably only to keep congress happy until the decision for Peterson AFB is somehow forced.

My daughter and SIL are looking for Engineering jobs in Huntsville. Can't even land an interview.

Anyone with a connection, please let me know.

I don't know anything about Huntsville, but are they looking for a gubment job? Engineering jobs should be easy to come by, well unless your daughter is a white racist.

I'd guess there are a couple of things going against them right now - covid and the uncertainty about defense cuts when the dems take over. I'll see if I can find out anything, but my son has been working from home since early in the year. That virtual shutdown has to be a real hindrance in bringing in new people requiring interviews and security clearances and getting them up to speed in projects they would work on.

They'll take anything.

Her racism is intensely private.

It is profoundly problematic.

They apply to everything where they meet the criteria. Have had 1 face to face interview in 6 months.

I'd really bet it has far more to do with covid than them. I know how frustrating that is though. My last engineering job ended in the early 90s when nobody was hiring engineers - at least ones with experience and not coming over on an H-1B visa. I'd have gone to work in some cases for what a starting engineer would have been paid, but there were virtually no responses to anything. My wife said I might as well have had "Too old and too expensive" stamped on my forehead.

Tell them have faith. With so many offices basically shuttered and people working from home and not changing jobs, bringing in new employees is probably almost prohibitive because of face to face interactions that companies are trying to avoid.

I was a hair away from being laid off in the early 90's and it was a punch in the face. I survived a bunch of layoffs and felt fortunate, but in the long run I was pissed and I never forgot what my company put me through.

I was pretty bitter about what was going on at that time with respect to engineering. I would not have recommended the work it would take to get an engineering degree to anybody back then. The outsourcing, off shoring, and bringing in cheap engineers from anywhere but the US was a real slap in the face.
