Hell I'd probably take Troy Calhoun over Jamey Chadwell at this point in their careers.

I mean if we wanna run a shotgun style spread-option.

14 years and is 101-71 at Air Force with just 4 losing seasons is a lot more impressive than what Chadwell has done at the FCS level and in one good season at Coastal.
Calhoun is a great coach. I think he just likes being at Air Force, but if he ever did leave for a bigger job I doubt he would run the option. He was an NFL OC. He's just running it out of necessity there

Honestly, it's hard to hear people talk about how much Fulmer loves UT when we pretty much know he's gonna let Pruitt come back next year. It's hard for me to imagine Pruitt can do anything to fix this. So why let another year slip away? Why let us fall even further?

Was napier fired from Clemson?

He was like 10 years ago as 30 year old coordinator. He’s gone on to have successful stints as a position coach for Saban and as an OC at AZ State before cobbling what is trending to be back to back 10 win seasons at ULL.

Smart money plans to a goal. If the goal is to win championships-- and if you expect a coaching search, that's certainly the goal-- competing with our rivals for division and conference championships is in our five-year plan. We have the talent to beat lower-tier programs right now. We're not developing and utilizing it effectively, so we're playing beneath our potential. UT isn't recruiting out of this hole right away. We have to max out what we already have and build on it as fast as we can.

And a new HC winning 6 with "Pruitt's team" shows more progress to next years recruiting class than Pruitt winning 6 after year 4 (IF he can even get to 6).

I had talked myself into Napier in some sense until I read an interview with him and he said he's built Louisiana in Saban's mold.

I'M OUT
Is there any coach out there going the Dabo route? Ya know, be likable, have your coaches WANT to stay around for a long time, hire developers and not just mercenary recruiters, maintain consistency, etc? Campbell seems the only one I've heard of.

Seems like there's a spin on just about every decommit. That's not good nor realistic.
For Lewis it was statements about character, Wolfe is his health, Darrell Jackson is just a processed player.
McGhee seems to be the only decommit that's not been spun.
IF that's out there about Wolfe, that's spin. The rest isn't really spin. The character issues for Lewis have been out there even while committed to us. Talk about Jackson being processed have been going on since before the season started. No doubt, McGhee's decommit hurt.

Is Dabo that likable?

One name I haven't been seeing that I'd like to throw out is Justin Wilcox at Cal. Most people remember he was Dooley's DC the first two years when we had a decent defense, which then collapsed when he left after the 2011 season. He went on to DC jobs at Washington, USC, and Wisconsin, before getting the HC job at Cal. His record got better in his first three years (5-7, 7-6, and 8-5), but this year has been under the draconian Covid restrictions imposed by the San Francisco Bay area governments, such that the first time he has really had his full complement of players was last weekend when they knocked off Oregon.

I don't know if he has any interest in leaving the Pac-12, or how he views his time in Knoxville, but we could definitely give him a bump in pay and resources. We'd be getting a guy who has performed credibly well at a lower tier P5 program, knows what the expectations are here, and has recruited the area before. He currently has the 18th ranked recruiting class in the country, which is frankly amazing for Cal. We'd definitely want to help him out with a good OC, but he just seems like a really solid coach. He wouldn't be at the top of my list, but if I'm Fulmer, I'm definitely having a conversation with him to kick the tires.

I encourage everyone to watch this when time allows. It's just under an hour but well worth with. I have always been curious about the process in which this extraordinary rebuild took place. Fascinating story that shows what the right hire can do for a struggling program.

I’ve seen his name brought up several times...on this board and the one I waste money on. Waste of a good tire kick imo.
