The quote I always hated was about how he "chose" to be here, as if he was doing us some favor by taking millions of dollars to come do a job he had never held before.
Yep. It isn't like he had 5 different schools all offering him $4.5m/year. He could have stayed at Alabama and made $1.5m/year, or come here as HC and make $4m with a gigantic buyout. Real tough.

You're winning me over. But I'm not sure I can handle the dorkiness. He's like butch but a better coach

WMU before Fleck: 5-7,6-6,7-6,4-8
Fleck: 8-5, 8-5, 13-1 (24-16 wisc)*never won double digit games in program history.
Post fleck: 6-6, 7-6, 7-6

UM before Fleck:
3-9, 6-7,8-5,8-5, 9-4
Fleck: 5-7,7-6,11-2, 2-3so far. (Beat aub in outback bowl) last 10 win season was 2003)

Played at NIU, short stint in the NFL with 49ers. Was the recruiting coordinator for NIU for one season and in that season NIU brought in Jimmie Ward who started for the 49ers for a while. As WR coach as Rutgers he signed a NfL WR in Leonte Caroo. Schiano took him to Coach in the NFL.

I mean there’s just so much to love about the dude. Comparing him to butch Jones in any way shape or form what so ever is just crazy.

A school with over a Billion in endowment can find a way to fire and hire a football coach to help generate more ...

This is a rant...

The thing that absolutely kills me about *waves all around* all of this is that there is a direct correlation between football success and enrollment. College kids aren’t “rational actors” looking 100% for a place that will prepare them for a future career. State schools are affordable, and they want to go to a place that’s fun. Watching your team get their f@&$ing teeth kicked in does not look very fun. Thank god for basketball and basketball fans, because that atmosphere looks fun.

The admin needs to take a long, hard look at their enrollment numbers and shrinking state support, and ask how that equation is gonna balance itself? Jack up tuition? There’s a supply/demand issue that we are already seeing. How do I know? When I walk around campus at Mississippi State I see UT sweatshirts and a lot of kids who can’t afford UT but wanted to go to a SEC school, and MSU gave them scholarships. UT didn’t. Also, let’s be frank here. Mullen’s time at MSU was a lot more fun than what we were slogging through at the same time. Good luck becoming “UVA.” UT was already successful being “UT,” which was the affordable state-university that could take poor, instate kids like me who grew up watching Tennessee sports, had high school teachers who talked fondly of their time at UT, and looked forward to being one of the rowdy idiots in the student section, and eventually mold those kids into top notch research programs.

I went to a doctoral program that is historically in the top 5 for what I do. UT prepared me better for that program than kids coming out of Harvard, Stanford, etc. I was an undergrad when Clausen beat Florida twice, and a first year MA student when Wilhoit beat them on the last minute field goal. We also had a streak on Bama. Recently I’ve met undergrads who go to Florida and Bama because they just assume that they are good at everything.

My overall point is that you can be good at academics AND athletics. More importantly, if you are a state school, athletics draws the tuition paying students that help your academic programs. You can complain that they shouldn’t be linked, or come to grips with the reality that they are, and do something about it, and that starts with spending the money on a go&$)da&$ed ball coach that can win us some games and stop making bs comments about sports being the front porch and do something about it.

signed,
-pissed off alum who wants to ask Brian Maurer why it is, if my opinion doesn’t matter, that I’m getting weekly letters and emails from UT asking for money. It’ll be a cold day in hell before I donate to the VASF for this dogs$8. I’ll just keep donating to the fund that helps first generation college students...

Not having a great year this year so far. But would take. After Freeze of course.

He wouldn't be my first choice, but some reasons would be ok,, 1st he's not Pruitt. 2nd, he's doing well in an ok conference. Drinkwitz came from App St and has been great for Mizzou his first year. Neal Brown is turning WVa around after leaving Troy. He also has some qualities that I think would sell well with recruits. He is very reminiscent of Dabo and has a similar culture to his program.
thanks was just curious on the love

Butchs lack of success while saying corny things shouldn’t ruin legitimately good coaches who say corny things for us. Fleck is a legitimately good coach. We’d be fortunate to get him.

Yea that’s what i was saying earlier to someone. It’s basically impossible ask a program of these calibers to have multiple special years in a row.

both will be welcomed with open arms.

IMO, Fulmer will not fire a HC during regular season. In all reality we have no idea what he is thinking. If he is doing this right, then there are no insiders with information.

Come Sunday, December 20th we will know more. Signing day is important, but long term is more important.

If he makes the right change at HC, then that coach will need to win over current players and we have the players to beat much of SEC East. New coach would need to hit home run for 2022 class. Not sure who fits this profile other than Freeze or maybe a sitting HC at a P5 that Fulmer might convince to come here.

Smart money plans to a goal. If the goal is to win championships-- and if you expect a coaching search, that's certainly the goal-- competing with our rivals for division and conference championships is in our five-year plan. We have the talent to beat lower-tier programs right now. We're not developing and utilizing it effectively, so we're playing beneath our potential. UT isn't recruiting out of this hole right away. We have to max out what we already have and build on it as fast as we can.
