Yeah, it was a perfect storm for them. They had a top 3 SEC coach in the history of the conference and maybe 4 of the best 5 players in school history all at once. They also had maybe their best QB in school history and still won nothing. Clemson also wasn't a juggernaut at the time.
2013 is the only one of those seasons where I think they have regrets. They were blocked by a 7-1 Mizzou team who they actually beat that season; but Carolina had a second loss to us that year that denied them the chance to go to Atlanta. That was a real nut kick loss for them.

They won the East in 2010 but were blocked by Cam and Auburn. They were blocked in 2011 by a Georgia team that went 7-1 in conference play and they actually beat that season. They were blocked in 2012 by 7-1 Georgia and Florida teams, and they actually beat Georgia again. It was always one game that cost them.

South Carolina is highly likely to never actually win anything. An SEC East title followed by three 11-2 seasons in a row is as good as they are going to be. They are not a historically successful program and will always have less resources than Clemson or Georgia.

All this is how they end up with a guy who has never even been a coordinator at the college level.

Maybe it won't matter and he'll be successful, but that job is the toughest in the East.

bbbbut we play Bama.

no excuses, just win. Is it Pruitt or is it someone else? I truly dgas. Just win.
We don't recruit against Alabama to the extent that South Carolina recruits against Clemson. South Carolina also has way less resources to do it with. Spurrier had the success he did from 2009-13 because of the in-state talent that was produced at the time; if such an outlier period were to occur again, that talent would be likely to go to Clemson. The Clowneys, Gilmores, Lattimores, etc. of the world would end up as Clemson Tigers. They have a huge uphill climb.

South Carolina is an extremely difficult job, borderline impossible. They have incredibly stiff competition from rivals and expectations elevated from what they used to be as a result of the success Spurrier had there.

I agree that players tend to check out but the coaching division has been going on all year. That has to affect players when you see leadership constantly at odds with one another and players have their favorite coach so they side with them and on and on it goes and I believe we see that on the field. Just don't see much team unity.
Absolutely. It's also the coaches responsibility to make the team a team.

There or Vandy, Missouri is another tough spot mainly because of location being crappy.

Georgia/Florida easily the two best spots and I think UT is next with Kentucky being 4th.

South Carolina is probably bottom at the moment with Clemson, UNC, NC State and now even Coastal Carolina all having better programs to steal in state kids.

He could have went pro last year and been a first round pick and made millions🤦‍♂️
He wouldn’t have been a first or second day pick...he listened to the NFL Draft advisory. That’s why he came back. Whatever else has happened this season, he’s played in two consecutive years without a recurrence of blood clots and the scouts have had to notice he’s done so with basically one arm. If he can get physically right by the Combine, he prolly still won’t go 1st round but definitely will get snapped up second day. Then work towards those millions in the second contract.

So what you're saying is, the SEC East historically cock-blocks USCjr? 👀

Key point with the new bargaining agreement unless you're a top 10-15 guy that's the plan. And you're likely to land in a better place.

To me, it's:
Georgia
Florida

Tennessee

Kentucky
Missouri

Vandy
South Carolina

Vandy can at least sell themselves as Stanford of the South and recruit those types of kids. Plus Nashville is a good town and you're never expected to win.

Basketball season is truly here. Bitching about the refs is part of the fun. And yes, they are bad.

If you think that was bad, wait until we lose a game. Watch this board because the Barnes haters will be out in full force. All they'll do is just change sports :):)

100% correct

With that, because he's the player we've built around. In his senior year, when this team is looking for a leader, people assume that to be him, including me... and he's not being that leader, fair or not...

I get that view point but leadership isn’t always a thing you can see especially on the field. It’s more of a behind the scenes thing. But in college football.... the head coach is the leader. All the time every time.

It cannot be overstated how difficult Clemson alone makes that job.

If Clemson was a mediocre program, like they had been for almost their entire history until the last few years, you could probably move South Carolina to 4th in your list.

Truth, the bandwagon basketball fans are very annoying. I remember it during Pearl's era as well. I'll just say it's extremely rare a basketball team goes undefeated, Knight was the last coach to pull it off in the 75-76 season. And despite all our talent we're a young team who hasn't had a ton of off-season together.

Still lots of fun to watch and last night was an off night for our 3 bigs (EJ, Fulky, Pons) with scoring, I don't expect to see them all 3 having that kind of trouble scoring every night. Keon is the real deal and JJJ as well as Santi both look improved. Add in Bailey being so much better than advertised (especially defensively) and then sprinkle in Springer (also project to be a NBA draft pick) and wow...if Olivier continues to get better as well. I'm excited played a fairly sloppy game with bad officiating and win by 9 without ever trailing? Yeah I'll take it :)

That's because bandwagon Tennessee basketball fans are really Tennessee football fans, and they bring a football "analysis" to basketball. One loss in football means a lot more than one loss in basketball, so when we inevitably lose a game in basketball they freak out.

At this point, there shouldn't be "Butch's guys" and "Pruitt's guys"-- there should be one team, with one goal. IDT the program is as "toxic" as some say, but things do need to be fixed. Starts with the staff and leading by example. The paycut stuff sent a signal about commitment and all-in for UT. Try instilling a "One Tennessee" message after that.
Sounds like it would be best to get rid of the entire staff and start over. If the new head coach wants to retain Jay or Tee, then that is up to him.

I think we're gonna have a really good team, if if if if, we can practice and play normally without Covid stops. That stopping and starting is gonna be bad for everyone. The way they started the game is the way I believe we can play even if teams go to a zone against us.

I want them to CLEAN HOUSE. Except for Jay and Tee. Tell everybody else to kick rocks. So tired of what we do for this university to be bottom dwellers, and for ANYONE on here to say we aren’t is delusional at best.

We have to have a Win first mind set like Fl, Ga, Bama but we don’t. Fans and loyalists are jumping ship and the higher ups are not gonna do a damn thing. There, I said it.

Damn where’s my ***** COFFEE
