He's got a buyout too. Not sure how much. Question will be when Vandy game is cancelled later this week, and if Pruitt was to lose by 25-30pts to A&M, can Fulmer still make an arguement to keep Pruitt? I doubt he will walk the plank with Pruitt.I see so many talking about how we must keep Fulmer because he loves UT and while thats true Fulmer loves himself more than he does UT. Here's what I mean, Fulmer knows moving on from Pruitt is the best thing to do for this program moving forward and he knows there is a homerun hire down the road that can get this thing turned around. However, Fulmer knows that moving on from Pruitt is not whats best for Fulmer.
It’s unbelievable the incompetency that exists up there! It’s unimaginable that we STILL haven’t learned our lessons from the past 12 years of hiring and firing coaches, and the right time to do it to advance the program back where we want it in a realistic time frame. Instead we continue to wait a year too long and set the program back to deeper depths for 5+ more years.Sure let’s wait until next year and Miss on some good coaches. Miss on this loaded in state class for ‘22 too.
3-4 years from now we should have this same conversation.
Should just copy and paste
And I think your beef is with agents who have created this world in which “progress” through two seasons gets a new football coach an extension. From the outside looking in, the decision to give Pruitt such a sweet extension looks pretty DUMB.
Not every case is the same. Impressive as Boise State has been on their level...it’s a lower level. Oklahoma State is P5 and had Picken’s largesse in it’s corner. Mendenhall fwiw isn’t a BYU alumnus...he played at Oregon State.Well we tried that Gundy. Now most were suprised when Bronco Mendenhall left BYU for UVA. I would prefer him to flavor of the month like Chadwell or Napier. Probably even like him more than Herman.
AV, you can just say Haslams in place of big time boosters. We are all aware of the dislike between them and Fulmer. I’m sure they are the ones feeding the Freeze frenzy, trying to push Pruitt and Fulmer out the door. I still don’t understand why Fulmer doesn’t get a re-do. He was up against the 8 ball when he took over with a horribly botched search by Currie. He didn’t have any real candidates when he had the position to make the hire. This is all absurd. It’s what is wrong with our program and university. Sad and despicable!Fulmer is tied to JP success at this point. Fulmer has crossed the line a few times as it relates to his AD role and some big time boosters are well aware of this when/if the time comes to ensure he is shown the door if the opportunity presents itself.
Yeah, I did know Mendenhall wasn't a BYU alum. So as you say apples not to apples. I agree, if Fulmer has as connection, and IF they move in from CJP, Harsin should probably be near the top of the list. Plus you could double his salary easily. Not every case is the same. Fulmer has been doubling down on a bad decision. He's not ready to admit Pruitt has failed and move on. That's why he doesn't get a "re-do". He hasn't tried to redo anything. He's continuing a failed experiment and digging us a deeper hole in the process. I loved Fulmer as a coach and a player, but his stubbornness isn't serving him well as an AD.AV, you can just say Haslams in place of big time boosters. 247 reported last night that Vandy has enough to play and they want to play UTHe's got a buyout too. Not sure how much. Dude we are hiring a football coach not a priest. You know what is embarrassing this football program over the past 12 years. It’s time to make this change that is so obvious it hurts. In real life you have to worry about embarrassing the university if you hire Freeze and you have to worry about firing a guy in year 3 that you promised 5 years to. You have to look people in the face as you talk about these decisions.
What was the risk in not extending him? Where was he going? By the end of last season he hadn't really accomplished anything that warranted a raise or extension. And I think your beef is with agents who have created this world in which “progress” through two seasons gets a new football coach an extension.
Absolutely no one complained about that extension when it was announced, because we all knew it was coming. Does it suck in hindsight? Sure. But every athletic director would have been forced to do it.
It was dumb. Even the media called out Fulmer when it was announced. It was a mistake and people did complain about it. If Fulmer really brings back Pruitt (I’m not convinced he is), then he can deal with the repercussions down the road. What was the risk in not extending him? Where was he going? But GA State and BYU....Guys in here keep saying "3-7", but if we had just kept our schedule before COVID beating USCjr, MIZZU, Vandy and then the three OOC scrubs, we would have had 6 wins and a bowl game. Not great but likely not prompting a termination at HC either.
I think this will be part of the University's thinking when they retain CJP.
