You should probably give the option of neither.

I think it very unlikely that he is fired at the end of this season, barring any unforeseen circumstances, and if that is the case, you have to at least allow the possibility that he coaches the team next year and has some form of success.

If he remains HC and coaches the team to 9-4 or better, maybe even 8-5, I believe there will be a decent chance that he stays.

FWIW, all of my instincts tell me that he will not dig out of this hole, but I can't just dismiss that it is possible.

I thought about that, but the mass consensus from the "biased and unbiased" is that he's a dead man walking. Appreciate your input.

It will be close. Dooley was 15-21 in his 3 seasons, Pruitt is 15-18 right now so flip a coin as to who is worse.
Dooley also went 4-19 (.174) in SEC play. Pruitt, even if he loses both remaining games this year and goes 0-8 in SEC play next year, would finish 9-25 (.265). Pruitt's overall record is taking more of a hit than it would otherwise because of COVID - he's playing all conference games this year.

It's almost impossible to overstate just how bad Dooley was here. His 4 conference wins in 3 years were against Ole Miss, Kentucky, and Vandy twice.

Pruitt holds the all time UT record for most 25 point or more losses and most double digit losses in a row. So again flip a coin as to which is the worst of all time.

In what universe is your HC on the hot seat in year 1. Mike Leach in no way should be on this list.

He probably shouldn't be on the list. Although I'll go on record saying I do not think he will have much success at Miss St.

Dooley is the worst coach in Tennessee history.

Agree and it's not even close.

Dooley won 1 SEC game in his final 2 years. His other 3 wins came in his 1st year. If Pruitt beats Vandy, he's won 3 this year, in a tougher SEC.

1-14 (Dooley) vs 8-10 (Pruitt).

Pruitt hasn't been impressive yet, but Dooley is, without a doubt, the worst coach in UT history.

The only thing I can figure is that Leach said or did something to piss off the culturally sensitive types - the same sort that got on his case for that ESPN reporter's son spending time in a storage room. Aside from some sort of thing like that, I have no idea why he'd be on a hot seat.

I guess the next question should be.. will Fulmer go down with him, or will he get a chance to right the ship?

Pruitt is still going to win a higher percentage of his conference games than Dooley, even if he loses every single conference game he's got left between this year and next (10 more games). Let's not act like Dooley had some penchant for playing close games. Pruitt does get blown out a lot, but Dooley still lost more games. Pruitt also beat a couple of ranked conference opponents in 2018 and went 5-3 in conference play last year.

Can we agree that they both suck? They are 1a and 1b on the all time worst list?

Coaches Hot Seat is a joke. They frequently put 1st year coaches who are midway through their first season at the top of the list. I don't know anyone even pays attention to it, except that it's a catchy concept.

I think he'll be just fine when he gets players that fit HIS system in place. They will throw it all over the field, which is what all the successful teams are doing these days.

Dooley Big 3 losses
2010: Florida by 14, Georgia by 27, Alabama by 31
2011: Florida by 10, Georgia by 8, Alabama by 31
2012: Florida by 17, Georgia by 7, Alabama by 31

0-9, the losses being by an average of 20 points.

Pruitt Big 3 losses
2018: Florida by 26, Georgia by 26, Alabama by 37
2019: Florida by 31, Georgia by 29, Alabama by 22
2020: Florida by 12, Georgia by 23, Alabama by 31

0-9, the losses being by an average of 26 points.

Mind you, Dooley had a noticeably worse SEC record overall (17% versus 27%). If Pruitt losing these games on average by 6 more points than Dooley is the basis upon which you think it makes this call a "coin flip," I disagree.
