Hope so. I don’t mind being wrong - all this stuff sways in the wind.

I trust who I spoke with, that they would know he was planning to leave, so I choose to believe, maybe out of my own optimism, that Fulmer put the breaks on it because there’s a chance Pruitt will be replaced.
"Interim Head Coach Jay Graham"

I feel like this guy spends a lot of time on VN. He said everything that's been said here the past 2 months. He's absolutely right and TN has to make a move now or it will be another total rebuild after next year. I can see JP going 0-12 next season. That's the last low we can reach and as miserable as Pruitt is right now, I can see him doing it for spite.

I think he stole a lot of my material and I worked hard on my stuff just ask Invol.

Do we really though?🤔

I agree with the offensive minded coach part. Absolutely. But the power 5 stuff is blown out of proportion to me. In this day and age of college football, we need an articulate, well-spoken, personable leader who cares about the well being of his players physically and emotionally while being able to speak a simple vision of where he wants the team to go and build a staff that wants to go in that same direction. He needs a DC and OC that are experts at their craft and a team of good recruiters that are also able to communicate his vision in parents living rooms as if he himself is sitting there. The modern HC needs to be the CEO.

Dooley, Butch nor Pruitt fit this mold. Shockingly, Butch came the closest to this but he lacked the humility and willingness to let his coaches coach while he focused on growing the T. A head coach has got to be a good decision maker, a risk taker at the appropriate times and motivator.

In my opinion, he doesn’t even have to be the best coach on the team.

I’d rather follow the Dabo model than Saban. Not saying I’m right, just saying that’s what I see. This isn’t 1973 anymore.
I'm just sick of the "prove it" coaches. It hasn't worked for us this decade.

Having P5 experience as an HC is not some guarantee that the coach will be successful, and obviously there are coaches who have had success despite having no experience when they took the job. We absolutely need what you're talking about - leader, needs to hire a good OC and DC, team of good recruiters, be a CEO. I think that Tennessee in particular, since we're terrible at identifying up and coming HCs, would maximize their chances at hiring a good HC if they hired a guy that has done it before at some other P5 school. Hiring a "proven head coach" has never been Tennessee's M.O., and it is probably time to do something different.

Post-Fulmer, the only guy who was remotely close to a proven HC was Butch. He did have some success at G5 programs, but he was also following in the footsteps of Brian Kelly at both stops. Dooley's HC experience was a joke (losing record at La Tech), Lane had no college HC experience (although he's the only one of the lot who can actually coach), Pruitt had none.

Because people only want Freeze. There are plenty of great coaches at smaller schools. Napier would be a good hire.
UT should not be in the business of financing a first rodeo SEC stint for an “up-and-comer”, “hope he can work the same magic here” kinda coach. Not with our past 3 hires. He may eventually be good down the road. Unless you want to be in this same spot in another 3-4 years, you need someone who’s gone toe-to-toe with the BIG 3 in the SEC and preferably beaten at least one of them AS A HEAD COACH. Hard pass on Chadwell and Napier at this time. You’re hoping some penny stock is gonna turn into Bitcoin for ya. Good luck!

I just dont see how Fulmer can look at Pruitt and the situation and think that Pruitt has a future here. And idk what Fulmer is waiting on pulling the plug either, unless he is finding a guy before he fires cornbread

I think Fulmer is extremely hesitant to fire Pruitt because that would be an admission that he himself has failed.

Napier had a great resume with big boy football.

Chadwell doesn’t and I agree he isn’t a guy we should consider but Napier would be a great hire.

3 things

1) firing Pruitt is an admission of making a huge mistake in hiring

And more importantly
No doubt in my mind on this

2) fulmer believes Covid holds a lot of the blame for this year

3) fulmer believes Pruitt will learn from mistakes

Sounds like me in the last year of my previous marriage holding out hope that my ex-wife would figure out how to stop being terrible.
