JT Shrout looked pretty good. More athletic than I expected. I still favor HB because I think he has more upside and he’s the future for us. HB did some really good things most importantly protected the ball even on his sacks. He never threw a really dangerous ill advised throw. Looked like a freshman at times and missed some throws but I think he has good qualities to be a really good QB for us once he gets some reps and more and more experience. We will find out how good Dan Mullen is next year without trask.

One has to wonder where any of these qbs would be had we not trotted JG out this year

they still do not trust HB.
21 passes through 3 quarters was slightly above the norm. He just dinked and dunked. 5.3 ypa won't cut it. Shrout had more yards in 5 minutes. Did like HB's runs though.

Just gotta settle in with his long passes imo and he'll be fine years down the road. Pass Pro still stinks, no matter how much the blind thought it was on the QB. Just not good.

In Tennessee's last 157 games, they are 77-80.

• In Tennessee's last 100 SEC games, they are 30-70.

• In their last 13 games against Alabama, Georgia, and Florida, Tennessee is 0-13. The average margin of loss has been almost 30 points.

• Since the end of Tennessee's eight game winning streak, they've lost six in a row. They've lost those six by an average of 19.5 points.

• This is Tennessee's longest losing streak since 1988.

• Tennessee has had 6+ losses in 10 of the last 13 years.

• Tennessee hasn't had a 10-win season since 2007.

• Tennessee has had 15 straight 4+ loss seasons.

• Tennessee hasn't finished the season in the AP top 20 in the last 12 years.

• Tennessee hasn't had consecutive 10-win seasons since 2003-2004, which is much better than Auburn (1988-1989).

• Butch Jones had 11 20+ point losses in his six seasons as head coach. Jeremy Pruitt already has 12.

• Butch Jones led the Vols to three straight bowl wins from 2014-2016. Since then, they've only made a bowl game once.

Shortcut answer:

Everyone looks good vs prevent defense. HB originally did. Shrout did today. Give me someone good Q1-Q3. Still unsure who that is. It's a toss up and no one has taken the reigns.

With a different coaching staff, yea. With this one, no.
I agree with this but how many ill advised throws would JG have thrown? HB didn’t stare down any receivers and went threw progressions. It’s easy to see HB has been training with some really good QB coaches for a long time. I know for a fact JG would have fumbled on a couple of those sacks. I was overall pleased with HB first start against a top 10 team. Where would HB be if he had played more early in the year? Coaching killed this season.

True it was prevent I was more impressed with his mobility. I was surprised by that. I still think both are better than JG.
