Funny how the wind can change direction.

Even during our winning streak, dating back to last season I knew it was fools gold. You could just tell. Despite the fact that we were winning, we were not playing good football. We benefitted from playing a string of mediocre opponents and we took advantage. It took an onside kick in the bowl game against a very pedestrian Indiana team to turn the momentum around. We looked mediocre against South Carolina and Mizzou this year. We probably looked our best against Georgia in the first half. I don't know what the hell happened to our team at halftime against GA but we have been putrid ever since then.

At 2 and 0 everyone was excited, loving Pruitt and thought Chaney was an awesome hire, 5 games later no one wants either one and if I was guessing thinks they can coach better than both. Just my observation. Funny don't ya think?
I don’t find it too funny, that we were fooled again!
GBO!!

I wasnt impressed with the offensive playcalling in the Gator Bowl and certainly not vs South Carolina this year. In both games, Chaney put the game in JGs hands and in both games, JG kept the opponent in the game. Then vs Mizzou, they ran it down the throat of Mizzou and won convincingly.

Since then, the games that were winnable (KY, Ark and Auburn), Chaney once again went to ole reliable JG to competely destroy any chance in hell of winning......so yes, I can coach better than Chaney.

The right guy is gonna win all the games he should win and suprise you with a game each season until he builds up to be able to beat the top teams. Not have to build to beat the teams he should beat. We need to get back to kissing frogs and not delay the inevitable.

Excited? Eh. That may be an overstatement. We hadn’t beat anyone of note in that stretch. Realistically I was hoping that we’d show up against decent competition. So yes, there’s lots of let down and good reason to be let down.

Things were bad last year at the first then the team found a way to play well. This year is a reverse. That is symptomatic of something. It's not whether you win or lose it is how you play the game. That is of concern.

No they weren’t. It takes more than a few underwhelming wins to forget the blunders

I swear people that post this kind of stuff don’t even watch the games.

Bro how can you honestly sit there and watch 60 minutes of us getting our ass busted and come defend the garbage product that we field every season?

Relax, the guy is simply making a social observation @ how fickle and fragile our support vs our disdain can be. I'll gladly be corrected by OP, but the post was not really @ football, but people.

True. It was more like "standing down" while we win the should-wins, and then measure where we are when UGA & Nana come along.

When a 3rd yr coach leads a team to historic lows the winds of change begin to blow...as they should.

Didn't we do this last year but in reverse???
Started out losing two we should have won easily, played some teams we has no business hanging with in the middle and ended with a good streak.

Wind do blow strange.

It wasn't just 2-0, it was an 8 game win streak.

Edit to add ... that was what had some of us excited, as it looked like we had taken the next step, the one where you're beating the teams you're supposed to.
We hadn't been doing that for a while now, then we were ... it was exciting.
Now we're not again, and folks are done with Pruitt. See how that works?

If you were overwhelmed with optimism by that "8 game streak", then you weren't paying attention during the actual games that made up the streak.

I get what you're saying, that we weren't beating really good teams, and that at times, we didn't look good doing it.

But I don't think you get what I'm saying at all.
We had not even been beating the teams that we should've been beating all along (SC, Vandy, Mizz, UK, Ga St to name a few) and suddenly, we were beating them.
Yes, that should've stirred optimism in the heart of Vol fans everywhere, because it looked like we were taking the first step to "back".

Yes, I was paying attention to the games as I watched them.
Sorry my way of thinking doesn't live up to your expectations, or level of football genius.

It doesn't take any "level of football genius" to realize that two of our best wins, were against teams that fired their coaches after last season. That we struggled against a terrible Vanderbilt. That we only beat a mediocre IU team because of a successful on-sides kick.

There's literally nothing about that the contents of that 8 win streak that speaks to growth and progress of a program, as evidenced by where we are at the moment, getting blown out anyone with a pulse.

I thought they were damn lucky to open with those two teams. That said, it’s obvious their performance is due to a rift among the staff and team. Combine that with a poor S&C offseason.
