I think we could've blown out ARK and AU. Defense was playing well enough for it to have been done in both.Oddly enough I do think if Bailey had played every game this season we would have beaten Arkansas & Auburn.
Think how much better Bailey would have been playing the full season? Ultimately the trust/loyalty to JG and Weinke has hurt Pruitt's success here more than anything else imo.
And Peyton Manning could never lose to Memphis and FCS AppState could never beat Michigan. And ULMonroe could never beat Saban’s Bama team. Upsets happen
Again, siap... You can't discount the affect this off season NOT happening had on this team. Given that the core talent base is fr and so, missing THIS off season was a big deal.
It's also a big deal how poorly we've handled things as a result... Tough duty for a first time hc and ad.....
Put those together... Well..... This is what you get.
So I won't go so far as to say it's a throw away because of covid... But it wasn't normal....
I fully believe had we gotten a normal off season, had a legit QB competition and played our original 20 schedule... Things would look entirely different for us today.
Again, that doesn't mean all is excused. But this was a bad year for this roster not to get the year 1 to year 2 development.. And for the fr to get none whatsoever.
So for all those reasons I think Pruitt is back, we'll see some more staff changes and he'll have the opportunity to get it together.
I do think the clock is ticking tho.
I think the lack of off-season was certainly a factor. I also believe this staff, and particularly the head coach managed that pretty poorly. As a result it doesn't appear much, if any, development has taken place.@letsgoUT29
Well, like I said I think part of that is due to the off season, especially for our so class. Most would tell you that generally year 1 to year 2 is the most important year in terms of development.
As for our veterans... Outside a handful, this team was really dependent on that 19 class this year...
And that's why I think it's a little different for TN, than some other programs that really do have veteran production.. Legitimately... Returning...
Again, that doesn't excuse other things we've seen along the way this year.
But you can't have both and still be good.... Just can't. So ultimately it's still Pruitt's responsibility to address that... And I think it's safe to say there were some bumps in the road in that department.
