Hammy was cheap. Hart was cheap. Cheek was cheap. That's why some say UT is cheap, even now, when every single decision maker is different, top-down. This admin has given the program and coaches everything requested, but fans still say UT admin is "stupid," "cheap" and "incompetent." Randy Boyd is far from stupid, he certainly isn't cheap and no one who knows him or has worked with him calls him incompetent.

Agree and what hope I have in UT's future is based on this.

At some point the main guys decide they are going to just let things go where they go, or, they get serious and do what they know they need to do.

He still has a job in the NFL. He is 38 years old. Still a lot of time left for him to get into coaching.
We all know what he does and for how long he’s done it. I’m just fascinated by you saying he wants this job. He’s done absolutely nothing to suggest it.

Just because you played at a high level doesn't mean you can coach at a high level. Pass on Witten until he is more proven.

That is why you bring him in under Cut. Let him learn. I live in Dallas and can guarantee if Wit wants to be on the Cowboys staff next year, Jerry will make it happen. From things I've heard in the Dallas media, Wit is interested in coaching after he is done playing.

“We should fahr Pruitt for being 2-7 in the SEC. But look! Cutcliffe is 2-7 in the ACC! Let’s hahr him boys!”
He is at the worst football program in the ACC. They have never won until Cut. He will probably get a statue when he leaves there. He would be a home run. Saban was average at Michigan state. Mullen was average at Mississippi state. Programs have limits.

He is not a home run. Not by any discernible measure

I mean I’m all for a VFL staff but I just don’t see it happening anytime soon. Those guys have sit and watched this program burn down and none have positioned themselves to come in and try to save it.

100% agree. I doubt there are many people who would not want a VFL to take over the program. That would take a VFL who had successful HC experience to come in and do that. There aren't any who have done that. And there's no guarantee that will even work. Look at Scott Frost. From can't miss to can't hit.

I don’t even know if you’d have to have one with HC experience to be the CEO of this program but you definitely want one who’s coached something. Witten is in his 17th? playing year and doesn’t seem like he’s in any rush to start coaching anything is all I’m saying.

yeah...ironic doesn't begin to cover it.

and i remember being for hiring Cut back then. the "you can't bring your staff" deal was, to me, an effort to cut ties with the fulmer era all together.....MH et al was hell bent on that.
Doesn’t recruit at a SEC level...doomed him at Ole Miss post Eli. TBF, their big Southern Dummy boosters got a taste of success and had no patience for an average couple of seasons...so they hired a recruiter in Oregeron, and that happened. Here I’d wait for the inspired threads to pile up like “Cut can’t close!” and “My head hurts when I think, but I hear recruiting’s important.”
