Pruitt’s Contract and Buyout details

Chris Loew said if we lose to Vandy he thinks it may spur enough booster anger to make the move.

How much do we suck when beating a winless Vandy team who has already fired their coach, has become a job saver at UT?

Loew said they'd be reluctant to move for financial reasons, and that Pruitt was getting a covid pass because so many players missed a lot of practice. He also said UT probably didn't want the instability to continue. Credit to Hyams who pointed out last week that keeping a coach you think isn't getting the job done just for stability is really stupid.

averaged 74,000 people actually in the stands per game last season. That's 28,000 empty seats. Add up ticket cost, concessions etc for those seats and you're looking roughly 10-12 million in lost revenue each season. Add that up for two or three seasons and it dwarfs the buyouts.

So the "can we afford to keep him" argument is legit. It was a major factor in South Carolina firing Muschamp early too. They feared he would cost them more than his buyout.
Thank you for a realistic, forward looking post.
I’m afraid the educated fools that run things are like the many posters on here that say we can’t afford to fire him.

Here we go............He is not going anywhere, he is IN his 3rd Year, there is no way they are letting him go considering the fricken mess he inherited, and if you don't like some of his coaching decisions.........well, there several coaches WITH HC experience looking for new jobs........so, sit back and watch the show.
The mess he inherited was better than the mess he has created...I've never seen a coach go so far backwards in my entire life...We aren't competing on a FBS level right now.

2019 was absolutely mediocre. 2020 is an abysmal failure.

2019 was definitely mediocre. We beat the sisters of perpetual sorrow and went on a 6 game winning streak against them - yippee. In those 6 games, 3 were against coaches who have been fired.

That is funny, I've seen many colleges going through the same issues with more seasoned HCs and better rosters.........why do you think UT is immune from having these problems?........because we are Tennessee? one only has to look at Florida State, Miami, USC, UCLA, Nebraska, ND, Michigan, hell Penn State with Franklin etc etc Your challenge is rising above the jealousy of Bama and Clemson, they are having their decade, Tennessee had theirs...........it will happen again, and everyone will think it will last forever.........again. NOTHING lasts forever, no matter how bad any of us want it to.

UT should let Ansley and Chaney complete their contracts in 2021.

Fulmer should tell Pruitt to have a CEO approach in 2021 and let Ansley and Chaney do their jobs.

Fire Weinke and let Chaney be the quarterback coach as well as the offensive coordinator.

Move Long to a coaching position.

What if we hired a new Head Coach and moved Pruitt to DL coordinator? He'd be the highest paid DL coach, yes, but at least you're getting something for your money. Maybe he'd get disgusted and quit. O.K. Blue font, then.

LOL,you actually think he would quit as DL coordinator, making over $4,000,000 per year?

The only schools on that list that are even close to what we have been through is Nebraska and UCLA....I honestly do not count them as they are always mediocre and in USC's shadow most of the time.....Michigan is struggling under Harbaugh....Penn St is having a bad year which is rare....Even on probation they were better than this VOL team...Notre Dame is almost always good...Not national title good but they always compete...FSU is having a bad time but with the hotbed of recruiting down here they will bounce back...What you are not getting is Tennessee has been bad for over a decade now....You really think those other schools will go through that?...No chance, the boosters won't allow it...Texas continually hires good coaches but they just can't get it going there...They do ok and go to bowls every year but they are like us and demand better.

I don't believe these teams have established any resemblance of their past. Tennessee is more likely to go through these because of our recruiting challenges. My point, when UT is having a run.......enjoy it while it lasts.

So here is an estimate...
Fire before next season - 12.6 million
Fire in/ after 2021 season - 10 million
Fire in/ after 2022 season - 7.5 million
Fire in/ after 2023 season - 5 million
Fire in/ after 2024 season - 2.5 million
Fire in/ after 2025 - minimal cost

So it appears that Fulmer/ UTAD have tied themselves to Pruitt for the next 2-3 years minimum....

So to me it’s all about the recruits and the assistant coaches...Pruitt needs to get his staff corrected to a championship level in the offseason and continue recruiting at a high level...

If he’s able to do this then results will start to show up in 1-2 more years.
So we save a couple of million doing it next year vs this year. Given massive attendance drop offs vs “normal,” that isn’t much to overcome.

No one in their right mind should suggest letting him coach out his contract.

This and many other posts need to make the distinction WITHOUT CAUSE AND WITH CAUSE! WITH CAUSE means NO BUYOUT!!! Surely the administration can find a reason FOR CAUSE for that loser jackass! And Fulmer too! Ridiculous and embarrassing! Most of y’all have no idea if you don’t live out of state!
