As much as I’m pissed at bama Jeremy I going to tell myself that this entire debacle is a team that saw their coach respond to covid protocols with a negativity that allowed the entire year to spiral downhill. Perhaps the team heard him complain one too many times about other schools not having to miss as much time and they lost their focus

That’s my story and i am sticking to it

I’ll say one thing.. If Jeremy Pruitt let’s Will Friend walk, by his choice or not, and he’s still the head coach here. It’ll be the first time I actually think he’ll be serious about trying to be a head coach.

Hiring your buddies is usually the doom of first time coaches, and a hard lesson to learn. I still don’t think he survives 21, but that shows me he’s willing to try.

Is friend one of coaches that’s contract is up?

If so Vq said they think he’s gone

The problem we have is more with the boosters and administration in my opinion. It seems as though they feel that the fans are incompetent and that they all know more than everyone else. Yet ever since Kiffin left we have had the same problems over and over again. No I am not a coach and do not claim to be one. But I bleed orange like everyone else on here does. We see the same things happening year after year after year. If the administration and boosters can’t realize this then we are destined to keep repeating our mistakes. The definition of stupidity is doing the same thing over and over and not changing anything.

When I listen to him dissect plays he understands everything that is going to happen before it does. It’s unreal. He just hasn’t found a way to get that knowledge to transfer yet. He will.
Hey. I like your posts. I hope you realize this. I am responding to you Bc you are indeed making sense.
I like to have challenging conversations with intelligent people so please don’t take me quoting you as an attack.
Ok back on track 🤝,
a coach has to be able to break things down so simply that all his athletes can obtain and execute the knowledge he has.
the coaches who can’t get their kids to buy in won’t be around long.
I promise you, almost every coach sounds like a Genius when it comes to verbiage and play recognition by formation, down and distance.
The great ones can change up tendencies ,and more importantly, get their players to notice the same and be able to adjust on the fly.

But doesn't that mean that Salter is more important if the offense is just one player away? Or do you think that Bailey will be that guy?

Not debating, just asking.

We have Bailey.yes we need depth for sure! But with reps I think Bailey is our answer for At least 3 years.the salter hype is solely on his ability to make plays not his IQ or his arm strength.he’s very raw! And needs time But Bailey has all the tools you need to win now..salter will need Atleast 2 years in my opinion

Agree. 100%.

Probably won’t happen this year though.

Then the off-season will be the most miserable in living memory, and the 2021 inevitable embarrassments will be icing on the cake. We bring Pruitt back and I’m checking out, and watching from a distance. Wake me up when we have a coach with a pulse.

I can’t take another year of trash football and the university not giving a damn. The last 12 years of it has about killed my joy for Tennessee football.

He’s contract is up, but we’ll see.

That’s his boy, and any dude on here that doesn’t act like they’d have trouble firing their boy. They’re lying.

The ability to translate that knowledge is a big part of being a good coach. Knowing things doesn't make you a good coach anymore than being a scientific genius makes you a good teacher, unfortunately.

where have you seen any of this in our game plans? Point to a game where he set up games that we dominate match ups/schemes let alone games?
How often do you see us scheme up a crazy blitz that causes a turnover?
Our 2nd half adjustments have been abysmal, a good X&O guy figures stuff out on the fly and makes winning changes at half....
And do I need to bring up offense? But I will, take Saints or Clemson as an example. Do you see how many ways they make sure they get their Most talented players the ball in space mismatched vs LBs or safeties... when do we do that? We almost have to have perfect execution to score a touchdown. It’s almost as if our coaching staff doesnt know how to isolate and target the opposing teams’ weakness
Damn.

That's hard to argue against.

I've tried to convince myself of the same thing.

You guys are good dudes and I have nothing but respect. But this sounds like damage control. There are a ton of fans that have lived through Dooley and Jones and know when the end is the end. GSU, BYU, KY, playing JG, staff turnover, defensive press conferences, lack of player development, record double digit losses, and now we are losing top recruits....the list goes on. We struggle to find any positives, really.

If you can give me one good reason, just one, that we will be more competitive against Bama, UGA, and FL in year 4 I will feel better about Pruitt coaching next year.

These two posts are SPOT. ON.

Unfortunately, that is not a good thing lol

I’ll even go here - if Pruitt fires Friend then there is hope he really is serious. We have Bama level talent on the OL with middling results. Friend needs to go.

I know a guy that fired his own mom. She was steeling from the company, but still that’s cold. Next thing you know they had moved him to corporate. I think If Pruitt fires Friend then I think that he is very serious about being a coach at TN.

If I were in JP’s shoes...I would probably look to the future. Shore up one of the best ‘22 classes the program has ever seen and make it extremely hard for the administration to get rid of me for fear of loosing such a talented group of players...

Got to win some games to make that $6¡7 happen. It’s put up or shut up time, and fans and recruits are always the first to see it.
