ONE PREDICTION
Harrison Bailey gets his first start — With Bailey’s play against Auburn in the fourth quarter and Jarrett Guarantano’s 100-yard pick six, I just don’t see Jeremy Pruitt going back with Jarrett Guarantano in the starting line-up. I believe Bailey would have started against Vanderbilt and for that reason I think he gets his first start in a tall task.
Exactly why you cut your losses now and hire a proven coach. The losses will only get worse if Pruitt is retained and it will put us further behind in the rebuild. Barely anyone will want to see this team next year with Pruitt as head coach.I think Fulmer thought Pruitt was sprinkled with Saban pixie dust. And Fulmer was probably driven by his own bias-- that a great coordinator could transition to a great HC, especially with his help and guidance. UT has learned a costly lesson-- this rebuild needs someone with HC experience and success. And someone who can assemble and keep an elite staff, instead of overpaying guys to underachieve.
I agree with this as well. However Fulmer should've looked at the precedent and seen that pretty much every Saban assistant has failed as a HC so far. Now, I think Pruitt is going to get next year and if he can win 6 he gets year 5 as well. What UT has to figure out is how far that will set them back and is it worth it to them.I think Fulmer thought Pruitt was sprinkled with Saban pixie dust. We are a big brand. But apparently we don't have the big bucks
They aren’t fond of one another.
There is no rub between Phillip and the staff.
I have been told several time Freeze and Fulmer hate each other to the point they don’t speak. Neither will have anything to do with the other. Also that Fulmer sits in on position meetings which the coaches don’t appreciate and the refusal to take pay cuts was directed more to Fulmer Any thoughts on either of these ?

I guess just like fulmer letting the program slowly get passed by in the 2000s he will let pride get in the way of hiring a modern offensive coach with a track record of success. Freeze knows the south and especially Tennessee. He would recruit so well for us and more importantly win ball games. Was always a long shot but we can go ahead and stop the freeze talk as long as Fulmer is AD.
While Freeze is a good hire, hes not the only guy who can be successful.I have been told several time Freeze and Fulmer hate each other to the point they don’t speak. He probably shouldn't have hired him on the fly, either, without making sure their philosophies meshed.
Chris Loew said if we lose to Vandy he thinks it may spur enough booster anger to make the move.
How much do we suck when beating a winless Vandy team who has already fired their coach, has become a job saver at UT?
Loew said they'd be reluctant to move for financial reasons, and that Pruitt was getting a covid pass because so many players missed a lot of practice. He also said UT probably didn't want the instability to continue. Credit to Hyams who pointed out last week that keeping a coach you think isn't getting the job done just for stability is really stupid.
UT averaged 74,000 people actually in the stands per game last season. That's 28,000 empty seats. Add up ticket cost, concessions etc for those seats and you're looking roughly 10-12 million in lost revenue each season. Add that up for two or three seasons and it dwarfs the buyouts.
So the "can we afford to keep him" argument is legit. It was a major factor in South Carolina firing Muschamp early too. They feared he would cost them more than his buyout.
