What happens if Harrison Bailey transfers out after this year.

If I saw how JG has regressed under CJP, I might be worried about my own development and consider a place that has turned a high school backup into a Heisman contender. CJP and CJC aren’t developing anyone to Heisman contention-level play anytime soon.

OTOH, if I see how CJP sticks with a guy no matter what, I might think about staying if I can be that guy and never have to worry about being replaced.

Really, Salter should be worried. HB might be our next JG and Salter might never see the field until he’s a RS Senior.

HB isn't going to transfer. He'll be the starter next season.
BM will transfer some where.
JG will come back and be #2 figuring Pruitt will get him some playing time.
JT will stick around and hold the clipboard and get his education
KS will be freshman on the rooster.

Maurer seems much more likely to transfer than Bailey, particularly with Salter coming in. I could see Maurer going to a G5 school where he gets a better shot.

Bailey is pretty easily the front-runner to be the starter in 2021.

While reading about everyone making fun of us for being scared of vanderbilt, I came across several mentions of HB transferring out. One mentioned Florida as a destination. So what happens to the coach that will be the first coach at Tennessee to lose 7 in a row by double digits? Then loses his 5 star freshmen qb that he will not play to our hated rivals. We even Got bumped on the sechdule for missu and vanderbilt. Life long vol fan, I can't believe it has gotten this bad.

<blue font> Well the really good news is if he does take his tinker toys elsewhere, fist good riddance. Secondly, we'll have another year of JG whoi gives us the best chance to win. And our highly touted incoming freshman QB, Salter, like HB, will be perfectly willing to watch JG do his thing throughout the 2021 season getting few practice or game snaps.

When the NCAA approves the new one time transfer with immediate eligibility rule (as they are expected to do early in 2021) It’s going the change college football. Obviously it will be helpful for players who sign with a school but don’t belive they are good fit and want to go elsewhere. But it will also mean that teams who have a bad season or fire a coach whom the players like could face whole scale roster changes...let’s say we fire Pruitt. We might have a few players who weren’t that fond of him but would rather move on to a program that isn’t starting over. Eric Gray comes to mind - he has one more year before he’s eligible for the NFL draft and he might decide to compete for the RB job at Clemson, Ohio State or Florida rather than seeing what the new coaching staff is gonna do. Then there will be the players who signed with Pruitt and think he is great...guys like Henry T’OO might decide to transfer to a school like Bama where he can play on a D with 10 other guys as good as he is...
Of course Both those examples could also happen if we keep Pruitt - we don’t really know the relationships between the players and staff. Just saying the new rule is going to make it much easier for your top performers to transfer out.

What if Pruitt decides to leave? Remember those post when he was first hired, some people were flipping out that everyone would be hiring him away, bla, bla, bla.

Harrison Bailey has been a solid Vol for since his commitment and he has seen what was happening at Tennessee, long before he signed. He wanted the challenge of restoring Tennessee football to a major force in the SEC, the easy path was just take the Alabama offer, or the Georgia offer, or the LSU offer or the Auburn offer, or one of the many, many others.

Pruitt's apparent plan to play JG this year, assuming he was going to be improved in his 5th year, and bring Harrison along for next year made sense, but the fact that JG has completely imploded and is now actually worse than he was in the past 4 years has put Pruitts plan in the dumpster. Pruitt doesn't seem to be able to make the adjustment to get off the JG bandwagon and just move on to Harrison earlier than he wanted to. He may be willing to start Harrison Bailey after this latest schedule change giving 2 weeks to get Bailey ready, or he may continue with the JG show and just write off the year.
This is probably about right

If HB doesn't start the remainder of games, then that's Pruitt's ticket to ride ....

Even an armchair coach like myself can plainly see the miscues of JG over and over again. If the dog don't hunt, don't take him to the woods!

Most of us thought that was true for the 2020 season as well. Until we keep hearing it like a mantra, "JG gives us the best chance to win" only to watch him go out and lead the Vols to blowout after blowout losses. JG is back next year.

Why would he transfer?

He is clearly the number 2 right now.

Well he could transfer because he doesn't like the offensive scheme Pruitt seems to want to run like run 75% of the time and pass on obvious passing downs. Just a thought, I do know that Maurer has regressed a lot since last year. He did not play with the same emotion and intensity he did last year. Which makes me think that Pruitt does not want his players to play with emotion; but rather do your job, treat it as a job and taking the fun out of it. Also I noticed after Bailey came in the game and we scored a td. On the sidelines Pruitt was talking to Bailey, it did not appear he was congratulating him, but rather criticizing him. If that is the case it will make any qb play too conservative to improve. You can be too afraid to make mistakes and could be why jg is struggling. He waits most of the time until a receiver is wide open to pass to him. Of course sometimes he does throw into coverage. I'm just saying taking too long to throw could be because he is afraid of making a mistake and he waits usually until a receiver is wide open. I just know Maurer has regressed greatly since last year. So something is going on and I don't think it is our assistant coaches, I think it is our hc.

The No 2 playing for who with what? Playing for a staff that seems inept. Playing with guys who seem to roll over at the first sign of adversity. A school who's admin. does not show much concern. AND a fan base that has no patience with any of this disaster and like me, runs their mouth too much.:( Happy Thanksgiving.

With the right coaching Maurer can be a great qb, not good but great.

Please enlighten us all to the reasons why this scenario is even remotely possible? Given that our offensive coaching staff has literally made our QBs worse the longer they have been on campus, and the fact that Pruitt is 100% convinced, that regardless of what occurs on Saturday, that JG "gives us the best chances at success".

To paraphrase Danny DeVito, 'He's supposed to be our number one QB, but Pruitt treats him like number two'.

If we are going to run the football 75% of the time as we have done the last few games, up until the score was so one sided we had to pass to have any chance at all. Then Holiday should be our qb, the best runner of the bunch. I am hoping for a balanced attack, and I know with the right personnel Chaney will pass more than he has been. Choosing jg as qb is all on Pruitt, because he wants more of a running game than a passing game.

You are totally right on this. I wouldn't blame any back up qb for transferring. And if jg decides to return next year he will be our starting qb again, and then after another terrible season Pruitt will be fired at the end of next season. However, it should happen this year if we lose the remaining games. Even if we beat Vandy, which is questionable at this point. He should be fired. We are regressing and not getting better. The linebacker To o to o or however you spell it has regressed this year also. So what is going on?? I do believe we have more talent now than when Pruitt took over but our record is not showing it. Move now while we still have good talent.

OP step away from the ledge. Bailey would be an idiot to transfer. He has a crappy QB in front of him. He will be our starter. He just needs to be able to read the defensive set better. That will come with time. Just because some of the insane people THINK we were going to lose to Vandy doesn't mean we will. Fans should be made fun of for freaking out about Vandy. The game getting bumped this weekend had nothing to do with us. It was about everyone trying to get in as many games as they can this year. Mizz was not going to be able to do that if they didn't play this weekend. We have time to make up the Vandy game. Hope this helps with you panic attack.

And he gets this ability by watching film? No, he will get this by seeing it and playing on the field. I understand film room learning is beneficial, however it's somewhat like taking practice shots on the basketball court by yourself. It changes big time when you are in a game and someone is in your face.
