In a potential coaching search, how much stock do you put into cultural fit? What I mean by that: how important is it that a potential head coach understands this job, the expectations, the area of the country, the conference, etc.?

I’ve always felt Knoxville is more Appalachian than southern - we’re more like Lexington and Charlotte than Atlanta or Birmingham. Is that a factor at all?

Only culture that should factor in is winning culture.

Don’t even utter that name out loud. Spurrier gets on my last nerves. He’s so salty because he wasn’t good enough to get recruited to where he wanted to be so he spurned us every chance he got afterwards. He can eat a bag of dicks

That last sentence is classic. Who puts them in a bag and where do they get them. From a morgue maybe :cool:

Dear Coach Pruitt,

If you start Harrison Bailey remember he is a true freshman. He hasn't mastered the Encyclopedia Britannica of playbooks and he will probably make mistakes. Leave him in there. Let him learn on the job. If he throws a pick so what. We understand . We expect a true freshman to make mistakes . It is much more painful to watch a 5th year senior stare down receivers , throw into double / triple coverage , completely disregard ball security , and deflate the already tired defense from the constant three n outs.

Yours Truly,
VN

P.S. Freeze likes chicken pot pies and Michelob Ultra so make sure you stock the fridge in the office before you leave.

I am at the point that as long as the recruiting class stays intact, I can give CJP another year because he is going to have to play his talent which I think is good enough talent to compete at worse and win 10 at best if they are coached well. I am more concerned with this staff than even JG. They should still be able to put him in a place to manage us to 5 wins in this schedule that is all SEC. 4 at a minimum. If you are upgrading staff then fine with turnover. You could argue some of it was guys getting promoted by going to the NFL to coach. I think this class is really even better talent wise than what the overall ranking is. Main concern for me is the Line recruiting but it is not a finished product either. But if this class falls apart and we see signs of it then you might as well pull the trigger because he is done. Going to be an interesting few weeks.
I can agree with that. If we actually see mass defections of the upper end talent of this recruiting class, then the writing is clearly on the wall. Some seem convinced it will happen, but I'm not. Even then, while I think Freeze is a legit candidate, I'm still not convinced he's a guarantee. Lot of people on here have convinced themselves that he's the answer. If he were to be hired, I'd hope they were right, but I'm just not sold.

You don’t fire Pruitt unless someone has agreed to take the job. This hasn’t happened since the Fulmer /Majors. It worked out then, probably would now.
That scenario was totally different. Fulmer was already on staff and had been given the opportunity to be the coach when Majors was temporarily out. He won his games and when Majors came back, the losing started again. The rest is history.

This 1000 percent. VFL's are appreciated but they are not in on the decision making. They will be listened to but just because you played football doesn't mean you get to have a vote on decisions in the AD. I like the passion of our fans and wanting to win but just because you know a VFL or a few, they are still fans like most of us are and the weight of their opinions are not going to determine if CJP is fired or retained.
Maybe that should change as we are seeing how well the administration and boosters are doing at picking our coaches. VFL told me Ansley and Friend were not good coaches. And now people are questioning both. Truth is they understand football and what good coaches look like. I don’t think they should decide a coach as they are fans like you said, but they understand the game more than any fan and have worked with many coaches out there. I think their input should be more sought after. Just my opinion of course.
