I agree. While I suppose he deserves credit for it, that's all low-hanging fruit type of stuff that any coach with 2 brain cells should have been able to pull off. Especially stuff like reinstating Jauan and beating Muschamp.

IMO, that stuff is overshadowed by events like his handling of the QB position, getting blown out by Vandy in year 1 and Kentucky in year 3, and losing to Georgia St. Not even Butch or Dooley, as bad as they were, lost to a non-P5 team.

I disagree. At least Pruitt understands the type of player you have to recruit to win in this league.

I think the guy knows football, and I think he knows what it takes to win in the SEC. I think he knows a LOT more about winning that Jones ever did. But for whatever reason, he can't get it out of the players on Saturdays.

Does he though? It's 2020 and teams prioritize speed and making places in space (on both ends of the field). While we have got bigger and stronger players, we are going against the grain in 2020.

Defensively, we have prioritized size over speed and guess what, we can't cover in space. We have nobody quick enough to get to the QB consistently.

Offensively, we finally did recruit some speed at WR but we still don't have enough of it. Our backs don't have enough speed given how easily they are tackled. We don't use our backs enough in the passing game like every other team in 2020 does. Our TE position is a joke and again, look at how UF uses the TE and look at us.

My problem with Pruitt is he keeps running JG out there and has Chaney calling plays so conservatively and predictable that it gives
the offense no chance for success. We know Chaney (without his hands tied) is a good offensive play caller.
If you can't run your entire offense because you're afraid of your QB making a mistake then try someone new.

It seems like with every new coach we’ve had, we always make the claim that he’s improved our recruiting. Yet, I feel like our recruiting classes have all been about the same over the past decade or so. We typically end up somewhere between 10th and 20th nationally, with some years a little higher and some a little lower. Those rankings sound good at first but when you look at only the SEC, we are typically middle of the pack or just slightly better. And then, of course, it seems like the much bigger problem we have is that our coaches can never develop that talent. We out recruit certain schools like Wisconsin every year yet they seem to always be in the Top 25 and often even in the Top 10. This ongoing trend has caused me to not get too excited over our recruiting nowadays.

Every good thing he has done is being undone/overshadowed by his teams on field performance this year.
If that is fair or not I cannot say ... but it is what it is.

I'm in the camp of giving him 5 years. No more extensions! Then if he hasn't shown significant improvement i.e. beating Ga, Fla and Bama(at least 1 of the 3)
and not getting blown out by the aforementioned then fire his a$$ and spend the money on a proven coach. Make that guy an offer he can't refuse with the money saved from JP's buyout.

Pruitt took over a horrible situation, and made it one game better.

Pruitt beat Auburn. While he did lose to Georgia State, Vandy, and Arkansas.....we know he “can” beat Auburn.

Pruitt has won 15 games, which is more than the 12 blowout losses he has had.

Pruitt is 15-16 overall which is slightly better than Derek Dooley’s record.

Pruitt has recruited fairly well, while it hasn’t helped to close the gap at all, at least other teams don’t have them.

Pruitt has brought in some good assistant coaches, and while the coaching turnover rate is extremely high, and they haven’t developed the talent “yet” we know he can get them here.

While Arkansas has shown you don’t need 5 years to be competitive, Pruitt is not looking for a flash in the pan, he is in it for the long haul.

With Pruitt here us fans can always think and say “next year.”

Unless I have forgotten, players have not gotten into any alleged serious criminal activities in the past couple years.

I'm just sad covid has only hit the teams inexplicably losing very hard. At least you must believe that if you think that Pruitt's brain dead coaching this year is somehow covid related.

At least with Penn State and LSU some of their best players actually decided to skip the season due to covid concerns.

His team was bad/unprepared at random times in 2018. Bad/unprepared at times in 2019. Bad/unprepared for most of 2020.

His halftime adjustments were bad/inexplicable at times in 2018. Ditto 2019 and now 2020.

Pruitt probably knows a lot about football. But as Urban Meyer pointed out, the players don't suddenly forget how to play and the coaches don't suddenly forget their x and o football knowledge. It just becomes a matter of communication and getting everyone to buy in and play together. There are no "other coaches players" and Urban said he would blast his assistants who started saying things about players not being good or needing new guys.

That communication and teamwork is the key to being a head coach according to Meyer. Pruitt seems absolutely incapable of that to date.

The winning streak was definitely better than losing. But 2019 was the weakest schedule we've played in decades. We had better players than 10 of the 13 teams we played. Butch Jones didn't get fired in 2017 because we lacked talent. He got fired in 2017 because he did a piss poor job of managing it/motivating it and bringing it together.

Actually Butch wasn’t fired for the results of 2017, Butch was fired for the results of 2016. The floor of that 2016 team was 9 wins in the regular season, 10 wins total. SEC East title was a near certainty. Butch managed to finish under the floor. Because he did that, he put the pressure on 2017 to be a “show me” year and just didn’t have the horses to do it.

But that’s all beside the point. That being said, Urban Meyer has no room to talk about how a team should adapt to having bad players 😂

If Butch had went 6-6 in 2017 he would still be coaching here most likely. They were going to give Dooley another year with one more win.

Urban did take over a 5-6 Utah team and go 10-2 then 12-0 in his first two seasons. Before that he took Bowling Green from 2-9 the year before he got there to 8-3 in year one. So he's coached with less raw talent and with more and won big with it. He also did it with other coaches recruits. Though he correctly pointed out that the day you take the job they are your players and your recruits and that there's no excuse for them not to improve.
