2020 Presidential Race

I’m not looking for stimulus. I think we’ve spent too much already. And I know you do too.

Look I hear you. Don’t do more BS stimulus like we did in the past. Your point is if we do it give it all to the people. My point is I don’t want to do it anymore. People need to be telling their governors they want to go back to work and to tell ANY statist bastard in the WH to F off with lock down orders. It’s beyond time to open the country back up

Btw I agree on allowing bankruptcy clearing on the loans.
I don't advocate spending but I know it's coming. If it's going to be done then figuring out the most effective use of the money would be important. Student loan forgiveness along with legislation to prevent it from happening again would be a huge stimulating event to our economy. That could have been done easily with the first package but that went to corps and cronies

I don’t have a problem with full scholarships for all of the scholarships as much money as the damn university makes off their backs they should get to share in that.

I have mixed feelings about outright compensation. A free degree is some pretty damn extensive compensation.

My overall point is what are we (generally), am I (specifically) voting for? I believe in change. I believe in looking around and seeing who might be doing something better. Whether it’s college or healthcare, don’t even get me started, the pandemic, etc...

But I also realize many folks think if it ain’t broke don’t fix it while not realizing for others it’s broken.

Anyway, I appreciate the debate 40, and appreciate your point of view.

Then hold the line on no more spending. That’s it.

Give students the option of bankruptcy to clear their loan debt.

No, taking care of the root problem would be a huge stimulating event to the economy. Like getting rid of useless degrees and finding out why higher education at some institutions is beyond absurd.

That disappears when loan requirements get strict and the govt doesn't guarantee repayment

There was zero reason for the FBI to even ask Flynn about those conversations when they had the transcripts already.

But what better way to entrap somebody than to have hard data, and then grill the guy repeatedly and with slightly different questions until he remembers or words it a little wrong. I don't think it was ever about Flynn - just entrap somebody like him and see if they could use him to get to Trump.

Same vol66. I am sympathetic to the student loan situation I just don’t support a painless write off. They were adults. There should be repercussions but I don’t want them to be punitive. Pj brought up allowing bankruptcy id support that.

There is no compelling reason to get their fees under control if the Feds are gonna prop them up. That’s broken let’s fix it.

And yes I think student athletes are largely exploited. Granted this is mostly football and men’s/women’s basketball. But they are all athletes and should share in the fruits of their work. I’d easily get behind more full scholarships for pretty much all sports.

Govt made sure that wasn't an option.
Then let’s all tell them to fix it. FFS that’s better than just a damn write off. Give the students options. Right now they have none. Adults in every other instance except IRS debt (more gov bs) have the bankruptcy option if they chose it I’d support it here.

But until the cost/revenue risk is normalized by normal lending rules this won’t get fixed and universities will keep gouging.

Can't agree with you on that because there's too much precedent saying it doesn't work. Two examples: Reagan pardoned illegal aliens on the premise that illegal immigration would get fixed - it didn't. LBJ did the social justice thing to end poverty and supposedly correct racial injustice by several measures including reverse discrimination - hasn't fixed either after more than 50 years of applying the solutions. Problems with managing expenses often seem like drug addiction - there always seems to be a relapse.

You don't do it with a promise you do it in the same bill. It's a requirement

Loan forgiveness would work better than handing a guy like Mnuchin an untraceable slush fund. Not sure anyone can really disagree. Problem is both parties want payouts on the back of the money printers

That's another issue. We treat kids as adults at 18. If you say that they aren't really responsible enough to understand the consequences of student loan debt and repayment because of the worthless degree issue, then we really should be saying they aren't old enough to vote either. It doesn't make sense to make the age of responsibility conditional.

I won't go into athletes, but I largely disagree with you. I think they get a very good deal by the time you get through adding up all the freebies. Don't forget they also do get stipends worth several thousand dollars - aid and attendance.

Yeah we have sooooo many inconsistencies on the transition to adulthood for sure.
