Hiking, kayaking, biking, skiing, camping, hunting and other outdoor activities. Show me your pictures

Spent the day in Glacier Park.
Hiked the horse trails at Apgar, so refreshing to be our in the cold air, and alone on a trial.

After the hike, I drove into the park along lake McDonald...

This year I will get back into snow shoeing and CC skiing and get back on those bike and horse trails for some good touring in the deep snow... soon!

Great Pictures!! Looks like I am standing right in front of the falls
It’s one of the more impressive falls, especially after a wet week. The picture doesn’t capture the size. We hiked to the top as well. It’s funny because we live in the same county as the Smokies but drive 1:30 to avoid the crowds.

Once you get 3000 feet on the Cherohala the color is gone and trees are already bare. The high winds that came through stripped them clean.

In the 70s, outside of Knoxville, a fellow student rented a small house on a property which was surrounded on all sides by other properties. Access was by easement along the border between two of these. It was ~1/4 mile to the mailboxes on the roadside.

So, this past week I did an outdoor survival private instruction from my buddy Randy who competed on History Channel's Alone a couple of times. I learned primitive firestarting methods (not to be confused with starting another JG thread in the FF forum), fundamental tracking, bushcraft, shelter building with all natural materials, trapping, old manual fishing techniques, edible/medicinal plant identification, useful knots, and small game processing/utilization.

My takeaways: starting a friction fire in Washington State in mid-November is extremely difficult but totally possible if you stick to it and make subtle adjustments... mice don't taste half bad... the Olympic mountains are stunning... Washington is very, very wet.

Anyway, here's some pictures!

That's one of my favorite shows. Never miss an episode! That and Mountain Men.

Sounds fantastic. NOLS comes next?

Don’t forget to post the mouse meal in the What I Had for Dinner thread!
