8 Vols assistants reject UT pay cut to help with losses due to covid

They are overpaid employees that have under performed their duties this year. Therefore, they should be subject to the consequences of that. The ethics component comes into play where if you know you’re under performing while other people out there (within your organization) are getting fired; to CHOOSE to continue your current rate of pay is selfish and unethical decision.

They will be subject to consequences. All will be fired within a year or 2 when Pruitt is.

I’d recommend to re-evaluate my troops then. I want people on my team that are true team first kind of people. Unfortunately, that’s rare these days.

Let me guess you are either still in school or work for some level of government?

They refused in May/June, that was coming off of a winning streak.

Regardless, they had to KNOW they were not performing at a high level. Our streak was against some real teams right!?!?! Even if you take out the performance level, you have to be unselfish and be a team player. You have to be willing to make the block so the running back and get through the hole. People lost their jobs because the university has limited funding. It would not have crippled anyone of these coaches to have taken a small cut.

What team? The university team that will can their azzes in a year or 2? That team?

Nope, commission only sales. 16 years at same company. I’ve been around long enough to know what a healthy team looks like. I’ve seen a lot of people come and go that were selfish.

I came up in sales and it's not selfish to take what's yours.

Yes, THAT team. The team that is paying you a ridiculous amount of money to be a glorified PE teacher. THAT team they gave you an opportunity to have the nicest facilities, best Fanbase in America, and every possible advantage you could have to win. And we aren’t. So getting canned is exactly what they deserve.

I agree we need a new football staff but that has zero to do with them refusing pay cuts.

This year I voluntarily took less money and paid for several things that I was being reimbursed for just to help out. I know that it helped our other employees stay in a job and provide for their families.

Good for you. Do you think less of your coworkers that didn't?

(Sigh). My Name is a satirical reference to Penny Hardaway’s reference of our basketball team having balled up fists. It’s OK, not everybody gets the reference.

I don’t need a lesson on the alphabet man. Ethics are pretty simple. You do what’s right. The majority of people realize this is a horrible look, and a selfish move based on their job performance. People lost jobs at UT that could have remained employed if these coaches all freed up some additional funds. So, that’s the deal.

You are exactly wrong... First of all, ethics are not simple at all lmao... They are famously complicated and nuanced, so you're factually wrong right off the bat...

Universities have been funneling football revenue into other non-profitable programs for years now, covering up the losses of those programs and paying for scholarships with money those programs didn't earn... Add to that the complete top to bottom mismanagement of funds in recent memory by the AD and the University as a greater whole, and it is NOT the responsibility of ANY employee to submit to a pay cut because the university for years footed the bill for non-profitable programs while not storing money away...

Your above quoted post actually proves that you literally lack the cognitive processes required to understand why your "ethical" take is literally exactly the wrong one, and the odds are that you're not going to find the mental RAM required to change them... And that's sad...

The reason that it has everything to do with the pay cuts is that the people that are refusing to take a paycut are also refusing to recognize the fact that they are not performing the way they should. Look at who took occurred and who didn’t. Look at who cares about the University and who doesn’t. When you’re selfish and don’t care about others it will affect other areas of your life, like your job performance, the way people respond to you, the way that people allow themselves to be influenced and lead by you, and everything is related to how people view you when you’re in a leadership position.

Oh brother. These guys are hired mercenaries, nothing more.

I think that anyone who understands ethics will understand that they are actually extremely simple. There is a right and there is a wrong. If you want to try to justify your opinion than that is your prerogative.
If I have excess and others are going to lose their job then I’m willing to help. Yes, there are factors out there that might make me FEEL differently, but it’s a matter of what’s in your heart and what you know you should do. It’s not a matter of holding the university accountable at the risk of some other employee losing in their job.
What you’re saying is quite disappointing because it sounds like you’re willing to justify/allow people to lose their jobs just to make the University realize they have made poor decisions.

Bigger picture - The fact that KNS is doing this type of journalism leads me to think the athletic department might be trying to grease the wheels a little bit to gauge appetite for a coaching change.

Next I'd expect some type of rehash of the Schiano Sunday fiasco and how that put us in a bind when it comes to hiring a coach. I'd expect a story or 2 on keeping Barnes and Vitello as success stories. This would help give Fulmer "cover" for why he messed up the first football hire...
Barnes isn’t a Fulmer success story. If a change is made....Fulmer won’t be within smelling distance of the fire or hire of a UT football HC....IMHO.

I get it, your feelings hurt because the ball team sucks. Too bad, they signed contracts. It is a business of hired mercenaries, there is no reason to hand out favors in either direction.

To continue to expect a contract to be executed as written, is completely ethical.

Of course I’m upset the team sucks but I’m just saying that it’s selfish to not be a part of the solution to keep people in jobs. That’s all.

I'm not wasting any more time on you... Your post just confirmed the last thing I said to be 100.00% true...
