Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

Wait.... so 0.2% of participants contracted COVID during the testing of the vaccine? And we’re shutting down society for this?

Well you can’t get it just passing by someone but everyone seems to have ignored that part. That’s why the restaurant rule of wearing masks to and from your table is so stupid. You have to be within 6 feet of someone for 15 minutes or more even though people like Septic didn’t believe it. As I said months ago, in your daily life how many people other than those in your household are you within 6 ft of for 15+ minutes?

Honestly once the vaccines are available, other than some extreme cases, no one under 35 should be in any rush to get it. School aged children probably shouldn't get it at all.

Yep, risk isn’t worth the reward. I’m healthy and young. I see no reason I should get the vaccine.

The only upside to getting it is if it will prevent me from being a spreader, but I don’t know how that works. All things equal though, I’m passing on a vaccine.

And yet again we see right wing media (and by extension its adherents) with a headline that does not match the text.

But that's typical of Trumpsters. Look we get that it takes a lot of effort and energy for you to even read just a headline. But honestly, you will find that life is better if you actually continue reading past that. I know it's hard. But you can do it if you try !!

Thanks for posting this, I heard it on the radio but could not believe it... wow just wow.

The article makes more sense than the headline. It speaks of prioritizing the USA to get the Rt below 1 before exporting. With the limited shelf life and logistics challenges, it wouldn't make sense to produce 330M doses for each American citizen when many won't take it. That's not very different from the strategy referenced in the quote from Azar in the same article.

So with the problem of the logistics in the US being a limiting factor, it makes more sense to export it to other nations, than to get things worked out here?

I dont think they understand logistics.

The media has spun "America First" to be some white nationalist thing where in reality it has nothing to do with race. America First means that we get it first and only after we're taken care of do others get it.

Zeke better not be caught giving some of the vaccines that we bought for $2B to other countries. As for Pfizer, they did work with a German company so where they send the vaccine is up to them.

I don't think anyone is suggesting exporting before getting things worked out here. The headline references exporting before it is available for all Americans. Out of 330M Americans, many are children for whom this most likely will not be immediately approved. Many others won't take it. There are multiple posters in the last two pages of this thread stating their lack of interest in receiving a vaccine. Do you think we should produce 330M doses before we export the first dose when less than half that number would actually take it? The headline does a good job of framing it politically by calling out Biden's advisor when Azar (Trump's HHS sec) said much the same thing. The article shows they both seem to think it should be prioritized in the US before being exported. Emmanuel quantified that by referencing getting the RT below 1, and Azar referenced a general target of having the needs in the US met. I think they're both right on this.

The headline does match the text - the headline says "before all Americans" and the article says the same; national until high enough (not nearly all Americans) to reach herd immunity then focus globally to get them there before the rest of America gets the vaccine.

agree or disagree with the policy the headline is correct to the content of the story

I thought this was interesting...this Brit says at the 13 min mark "without the support of the US Gov't we would not be where are in respect to vaccine development"

Emanuel is just waiting out the 75 and over crowd.

@kiddiedoc or @NurseGoodVol

I’ve been prescribed a z-pack and dexamethasone. I understand the need for a corticosteroid, but why an antibiotic?

Also, it was recommended that I also take quercetin and famotidine (generic Pepcid) in addition to vitamins C, D, and zinc. Any thoughts on the quercetin and famotidine?

It's my understanding that the Z pack prevents secondary infections. (I am a doctor but not an MD. I deal with the head and neck)

Doesn’t the Pepcid have anti-inflammatory properties? I thought that was one of the reasons they suggest it’s use.
