Unfortunately welfare as it works in this country doesnt actually build up anyone. Not sure what the right term is here but the recidivism on welfare is right around 60%.

Straight Talk on Welfare Statistics (2020) | Fortunly

Only ~30% are on it for one year.
~43% are on it for less than 3 years. I couldnt understand if this includes the 1 year group or not.

Seems like we need a much better way of helping people than welfare. According to that article the biggest decrease in welfare has come under Trumps policies in 2018. Which would fall at the tail end of the 3 year buffer from Obama.

Best way to help people is to make them take care of themselves. Doling out money doesnt fix anything.

I don't think it's bad. Clearly it's addressing the racial element. Not everybody has to end up at the same place. But black people and white people as a distribution should, that should be the end goal. And there are a number of things at play, but one of those things is an unequal starting point. And one of the contributors to that is generational wealth that was denied to black people. Look I don't agree with Democrats, but Republicans need to get a plan to address that the black community needs lifted. My plan would be to end the drug war, invest in those communities (schools, community college, and recreational facilities), and subsidize manufacturing to bring back wealth building blue collar jobs.

Ending the drug war would be a start. Ending social welfare would be the death blow to inequality of opportunity. Those two obstacles are disproportionately harmful to the black community. Quit locking up would be fathers and quit incentivizing fatherless homes. I think the rest of the problems would eventually solve themselves over a couple of generations.

Only the dumbest of the dumb don't see exactly what the progressives, the liberals, the ones in control of the Democratic party, ultimate goals are.

Working for equal chances for everyone sure is evil. What are they thinking? Thats not American at all.

Correct in a communist country we will all end up dead.

As opposed to living forever with no communism? What

You all are against equal opportunity. The Dems fight for it. That is the fundamental difference.
No we are against needless government interference in our lives preventing us from reaching our own outcomes.

The Dems don’t want to fix it they want to keep their charges dependent on them to guarantee their continued votes.

The drug war, particularly in the 90s, was done because crack cocaine was decimating black neighborhoods. Getting these drug dealers off the streets was a big help. South side Chicago is run by gangs dealing drugs. Those neighborhoods need to be cleaned up.

We're already putting money into inner city schools and recreation facilities. Short story:

A couple years ago my suburban white high school played an away football game at an inner city school. We had far more parents of players at the game than they did. I felt sorry for their players 'cause their parents didn't care to show up and cheer them on. That's a parenting issue. There's no money issue there.

In this country our "poor" have more food stamps than they can use. They have smart phones, flat screen TVs and many own cars. We've fought the poverty fight and we won. There are much bigger issues for our country today
