Mike Leach Sucks and UT can easily lose to Arkansas

Leach never wins in Year 1. Took him till Year 4 at Wash State. He's a coach that has to have "his players".

In any case, just wish we'd play Maurer or Bailey at QB. D.J. Uiagalelei looked very good at Clemson on Saturday and he's a true Freshman. If Maurer and / or Bailey aren't better than JG by the end of this season, we have a problem.

Two things have become more clear to me recently. First I'm glad we didn't hire Mike Leach. His "air raid" offense has scored a grand total of 16 points in the last 3 weeks. After what appeared to be an impressive first game against LSU (who obviously have enormously huge issues), Leach's team has fallen more flat that UT has which is impressively bad given Tennessee's last two weeks.

That brings me to my second observation. One of those teams that beat Leach was Arkansas. Arkansas with a first year head coach, playing in the SEC west, has scored at least 21 points in 4 of their 5 games this year. The lone blemish was against Georgia's defense. Since Tennessee doesn't have anything even close to Georgia's defense that means UT has to score points. Something they haven't managed to be able to do since JGs epic meltdown.

Arkansas is probably the second easiest game UT has left and on the road against a team that can score points I'm now inclined to think this is an "L" and UT ends up going 1-4 in the back half of the year.

ESPN is giving Arkansas the edge to win in this one and Vegas is only giving Tennessee -3 on the spread. This game is considered a toss-up. A DAMN TOSS-UP! It's very possible that Tennessee loses to lowly Arkansas with a first year head coach. A loss would also mean that Arkansas is having more success with a 1st year HC playing in the SEC west than Tennessee is having with a 3rd year HC playing in the east. That's crazy to think about.
This is leach 1st year. I think he deserves more than 6 games to be judge on.

Maybe they just had bad attitudes left over from the previous staff.

Wasnt that the excuse made for all the departures a couple of years ago..changing the culture...getting rid of those that wont buy in..

Or does that only work in Knoxville...kind of like how Covid only screwed Pruitt but no one he has coached against
Except he’s never won anything of note anywhere

I’d have looked good at Clemson

Mike is not living up to expectations at all BUT like so many on here constantly say about our many coaches, “wait until he gets his guys in and his system in place”.

Just like we don’t want to judge UT coaches before then we should do the same with others. Not to be nice to them but to be honest with ourselves about the competition.

If we lose to Arkansas, Pruitt is in more trouble than I would have thought. They have lesser talent across the board except QB. It would mean that Barry Odom is a better DC than Pruitt. In watching the A&M game last night, we can easily lose to them as well. They at least seem to have a game plan.

QB is obviously the difference, but Arkansas was down 25 points in the 4th quarter yesterday before scoring two 4th quarter touchdowns. Not exactly as close as the score indicated, but not a bad showing.

The defense needs to be up to the task. Arkansas is not great at any one thing on offense, but they are very balanced. We have to contain Franks on QB runs, he had 91 yards on 16 rushes yesterday (that includes negative yards from sacks). Defensive line has to figure something out in the bye week.
That's how the Briles offense works.

IIRC Ark recruiting has been in the 40's the last few years..I'd say this staff is getting the most out of them....Ark fans have said their defense is night and day better than the past 2 seasons.

The problem is nobody gets 4 years to suck in the SEC, not even MSU.

What about it’s year zero, wait until he has at least 4 classes of his own players, running an air raid offense with players that don’t fit, can’t win without talent, it’s a COVID year, etc, etc more excuses give him time,? Before saying a HC that’s won every where he’s been sucks? Or does that only apply at UT?

LOL just like Jeremy Pruitt has won everywhere he's been.... until he got to our school and last time I checked Leach has no titles to his name.

Two things...1st they are playing with "juice" under a Coach in year 1 (doesn't mean they will sustain that, and secondly...they have a QB (we don't). Remove Franks and plug in what they had before him and things are different.
Franks has never appeared to be very good before though.

LSU freshman QB looked great last week and terrible yesterday

If JG starts and we lose, Pruitt may as well pack up, regardless of recruiting. Even if top 3 in recruiting, it's shades of Butch Jones. Deja vu all over again.
We aren't going to be Top 3 in recruiting. We are currently No. 10 in recruiting which is 5th in the SEC, behind all the usual suspects.

Miss State - worse than expected
Ole Miss - better than expected
South Carolina / Missouri about as expected
Kentucky - about as expected
Auburn - seems to be improving
Arkansas - better than expected and improving.
A and M - about as expected - improving
Tennessee - worse than expected and not improving.
Franks was not very good at Florida but looked much better yesterday and is part of their improved play. Would trade qbs tomorrow.
Arkansas can score 20 points - so we may not have a chance unless all the stars align - in a game similar to S C. Problem is - teams know what JG ‘s strengths and weaknesses are and successfully scheme accordingly.
For us to win - it would be an upset based on recent play of both teams imo.

Franks was looking like a bust his first 2 years, got competent coaching, played well in 2018, then missed most of 2019. The fact is Arky's coaching staff found a QB and we are still rolling out the guy who hasnt improved since 2017.

Franks and JG"s stats were almost identical before Saturday.

Living in the PNW for the past seven years and seeing Leach up close, them beating L.S.U. was the worst thing that could happen to State fans, it gave them false hope. He is easily the most overrated "big name coach in college football". He'll be gone in two years. And yes, we dodged a bullet by not finishing up that deal.
