Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

Gordon hope all turns out well. Not a fan of Northam either. Did your friend go to another hospital?
No room around here. They're talking about turning some of the rehab centers into areas for covid patients, but not yet. They gave him an RX for decadron tablets and sent him home. He is no better, no worse.

Tell him to look up purse lip breathing and do it frequently. It helps with shortness of breath.

It says it right on the box. May be positive for other corona viruses. The virus corona has 6 strains. It's like having an arrow and changing 6 tips. The carbinite shaft is the same, each tip affects humans differently. That RT PCR can pick up virus segments pertaining to the carbinite shaft and call you positive. You could be positive for any of the 6 or have dead virus particles of the 6.

So I'm wondering how many (percentage) are showing positive for COVID-19 but in reality it's showing positive for another corona virus or as you mentioned earlier variability of the lab (cycles run etc). Do we have any idea? It seems to me that it's a terribly flawed test if it detects illnesses other than C19. It'd be like getting a leukemia test back and it says CLL when it reality it's really myoplastic dysplasia. It'd completely screw up the prognosis/treatment. Only in this case, test results affects public policy for everyone

I can tell you with A few simple tests if they are positive. D dimer, ferritin, crp and chest x-ray correlated with clinical picture.
Edit: but I'm not a doctor, so I don't do that. 😳

Viral culture is really the only gold standard, but it's an expensive and time-consuming test. It would be nice if we could get an agreed threshold for PCR cycles in place.
