Markets tumble as fear grips Europe over threat of widespread lockdowns

Lockdowns, panic, riots.

If Europe did such a superior job to the United States in regards to handling COVID-19, why are they shutting down again? What was the point of such stringent lockdowns and closures if they're still jumping back to square one come November 2020? Was it worth saving a small number of lives at the expense of 99% of your populace?

There's simply no sense in trotting out the lockdown idea again, especially domestically. It's time to open back up, encourage (but not mandate) mask use, try to get the most vulnerable in society to sequester themselves and let the chips fall where they may.

It's my understand they're shutting down restaurants, bars, movie theaters, gyms... in some cases not completely. Hardly a complete lockdown by any stretch. Makes sense to me.

Where in the constitution does it say we are a two party system? Demand better.

The Constitution doesn't say it. It's reality. You want to live in your own little world or do you want to live in the real world? Voting third party doesn't move the needle one bit. You might as well stay home

CDC says “We estimate that at least 434 deaths associated with influenza occurred during the 2019-2020 season among children aged <18 years.”

That’s vs 108 confirmed Covid <18.

So what they did last time didn’t work , they are doing it again and .. that makes sense to you ? Pure Fear . Smh

It’s almost like you can’t actually stop a virus. So strange. Kinda like what’s going on in the US now...the big “cases” states now are primarily the ones that haven’t had earlier problems. Social distance, wash hands, wear a mask, protect the vulnerable, keep society “open,” and wait for a vaccine.

If trump and Biden are the best we can do then everybody might as well stay home.

I get that. I disagree. Our choices sucked four yrs ago too but I can't imagine where we'd be now if Hillary had handled C19 and appointed 3 SC justices. If you really do despise both candidates then yeah, stay home. If you despise both candidates every 4 yrs then the problem's on you.

I agree that we need better public servants right now but I can see why more don't run. Who'd want to subject yourself/family to today's media and partisan climate? Look at how folks like Trump and Kavanaugh were treated over unfounded allegations? I'm amazed Trump wants 4 more yrs of that. I wouldn't have blamed him one bit if he'd decided not to run again. If he loses he'll go back to his billionaire lifestyle and shed no tears

Found out this morning that my 74 year old father in law tested positive last Thursday, the man has Parkinsons, high blood pressure and a thyroid problem. So far only a low grade fever and nothing else.

He's the sort of guy who should be treated aggressively early like they did with Trump. Give him the steroids and antibodies sooner rather than later

It amazes me how these countries are willing to take themselves and their economies to the brink of destruction to try and stop something that affects a specific demographic ... Science .

Funny thing is if you read the article, there’s a case that could be made that the treatments were worse than the disease. Demographics from those getting sick and hospitalized remained the same. But the fatality rate has diminished. So, the virus itself probably isn’t less deadly. The early treatments are potentially what was deadly.

Honestly it's too early to determine that the fatality rate is diminished. It's likely that there'll be about a 4 week lag in fatalities after spikes in cases and we're not there yet. I hope fatalities do stay down

Best wishes for your FIL, hog. The ability to successfully treat covid, even in vulnerable people, is far better today than it was back in April.

Hopefully he recovers. That's a rough starting point.
