Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

How do you defend this position when many of the areas that have seen an increase in case numbers DID, in fact, take the virus seriously, close down businesses, and enact mask mandates? How do you explain that a large percentage of new "cases" claim to be strict mask-wearers? How do you explain Hawaii? How do you debunk the CDC's own meta-analysis from 2019 on prevention strategies for the transmission of influenza?

I want to know the opposite of this . Here where we live the social distancing and mask wearing is very lax and has been for months . I can’t say for sure ( no way to tell ) but I’d bet most of the people we see here ARE NOT washing their hands more to avoid contact on surfaces . So my question is how are we able to do it this way and see no spikes in hospitalizations and deaths if the distancing, masks and hand sanitizing is what’s stopping the virus ? I mean I see the media reports and I see the fear porn posts but then I go to the actual Covid update and , well .. somebody is lying to me .

Change of topic:

My wife went to donate blood this morning and they told her that they were no longer performing CV19 antibody testing "because they had enough plasma."

do you think that means: 1) they really have enough for all who get sick, 2) they don't anticipate as many getting sick as originally, 3) it's not very effective so they aren't bothering anymore?

Good question.

The truth is: we are performing a real-time experiment with our population. We don't know what the efficacy will be on limiting viral transmission, and we don't know what the long-term or unintended effects will be.

Early returns suggest that masks do not stop CV transmission in populations. There has been a rise in facial staph infections and dental caries. The psychological effects are TBD.

My allergies are about ten times worse than normal this year. Could the mask have anything to do with that, or is it just a coincidence?

I've seen a number of articles come out recently that there is not much success using the convalescent plasma therapies but I don't know for sure

I would say it could be a combo of 1 and 2. It's definitely too early to say #3. The jury is still out, but there have been studies that appear to demonstrate efficacy.

My true hope is that we can come out on the other side of this thing with actual facts and solutions that can help us with this and other viruses without a political slant or lean to them . I’m extremely pessimistic about that because of all the extra power this has granted government agencies, but I do hope for this .

The problem I have is that the experiment has no control arm. We have been collecting data on this differently in every aspect than how data has been or is collected on other respiratory viruses. It will be virtually impossible to know what worked and why it worked. And maybe that’s the goal.

I find the irony in how the "follow science" crowd doesn't understand data analysis. Positive test frequency is a nearly meaningless data point without the other pieces of the puzzle. Further, as KD has pointed out if you compare spikes in positive tests you see them both populations following all the rules and those who are not. Difficult to establish degree of causality with that type of variation. Reducing lethality seems to be ignored as are all the negative impacts of lockdowns (writ large).

Any new drug that shows any promise in the lab faces toxicity as the first phase of trials. The logic is simple, the cure should not do serious damage. We are not applying that logic to lockdown interventions. The toxicity phase is ignored and in the efficacy phase, conflicting data is ignored.

Science!

IMO the spread of the virus here in the US has been exacerbated by a number of factors including:

(1) We are a free society. No Chinese here to clamp us down completely.
(2) We travel freely about... alot.
(3) We have a large segment of our population that *cough* doesn't believe CV19 is a significant threat and, therefore, takes actions that further spread of the virus
(4) We have a President who has failed to create a National Plan to deal with CV19.
(5) We have lots of unfit, fat ass citizens who are unhealthy and vulnerable.

Ultimately, we could significant reduce the spread of the virus by doing simple, simple stuff: Wash hands, social distance and wear a mask. But, no. Folks like you find this an intrusive, overbearing infringement of your "rights".

So, yeah, guys like you are largely to blame. The irony is thick.
#5 kills me. Every obese pt Did very bad with corona. Nutritionally their panels were really bad. Deficits in vitamins, proteins and minerals. That's just really bad nutrition.
We haven't seen a CDC push for nutritional building of the immune system. That's not their focus. The major focus seems to be social distance, masks and hand washing. Center for disease control not pushing for healthy immune system goes against the major tenet of what would solve multiple issues.

Spot on.

You will not like to hear this. McRib hosted a gathering at our house on Saturday. The therapists from the hospital and their families came. No one wore a mask. The professionals who work in the hospital are not worried about it (for younger, relatively healthy people).

Look at places that have taken Covid seriously - like MA. We got slammed when it first hit, but since then, have taken prudent measures (READ: NOT SHUT DOWN THE ECONOMY), and as a direct result, have done a pretty good job of keeping the virus from spreading.

In contrast, look at TN. Didn't get slammed initially, but many like you ignored and disregarded the simple steps needed to help curb a pandemic. Result:

It ain't rocket science.

Socially distance.
Wear a mask.
Wash your hands often.

You don't like it but it's not wrong. Sickness should be tracked and documented not unreliable tests with zero reason for being even taken

I work for a living so going to infect myself is an idiotic suggestion. It didn't mean that I live my life in fear though.

Bleat on!

Ahhh... so now even the tests are worthless. Perfect.

I get it. Young people by and large unaffected by this. But, it obviously would be helpful for them to not catch and transfer the virus to others who are vulnerable.

More data:

MA 1431 deaths per million
TN 458 deaths per million

So increasing positivity rates don't concern you either?
Nope. Not if mortality rate is plummeting along with them. Increasing infection rate is a good thing.

Remember when all this stupid crap was to flatten the curve, and was supposed to be temporary? Yah. That was awesome.

Ahhh... so now even the tests are worthless. Perfect.
I believe I said the tests were unreliable which is true. Ask Saban

It's worthless to test healthy people for a virus simply because they sat next to someone who also has zero symptoms but might have tested positive. Doubly true when those same are in the lowest at risk group for getting ill

No. That's simply wrong. Once the curve was flattened, the majority of states loosened restrictions.

And, also of course, you're simply wrong about the rate of infection being "worthless".

If it's no big deal to become infected, well by god, go get yourself infected! This will help Dumb Donald towards his goal of herd immunity, right? Go for it, dude!
Are you trying to say that medical fcilities are overrun? THAT was the reason we were given for the temporary lock-down.

@NurseGoodVol, is critical care overrun in the US at the moment?
