The Atlanta Braves

I think it hurts more because we were up 2-0 and then 3-1 in the series, plus we were up 2-0 early in G7, but I can’t say that the better team didn’t win. We made some mistakes that really cost us, but we went toe to toe with the best team in the majors and we barely spent any time during this entire season with more than one decent (hell, even just league average) starting pitcher available at the same time. Last year, we were a better team than STL, and I’d have liked our chances in the NLCS against Washington. This year, our lack of pitching finally caught up to us and the offense couldn’t get it done when it mattered most. It happens.
The missed opportunities for sure. They may be better than us, but we should have won that series three or four times over.

My offseason priority list.
1.Resign Ozuna (with or without the DH)
2. Extend Freddie
3. Add a quality veteran starter (not this Hamels and Hernandez BS)
4. Add to the bullpen
5. Try and improve 3B (I like Riley more than most but if we can improve do it)

Not sure how much we’ll be willing to spend due to the loss of revenue but this would be my ideal offseason (also assuming Ender is traded for a bag of balls).

I like Riley and I still think he has potential, but I think at least a half season in Triple A would do him a ton of good.

I know it won’t guarantee a World Series. I know that with COVID, we won’t increase payroll and ownership is going to tighten the wallets. But I just want to make baller, all in move. If the Dodgers win, that would mean the last six World Series champs have done a huge acquisition right before or during the season. Whether by trade or a long term commitment to a FA, I just want to push some big chips and do something like that. Show how badly you want to win a title.

I know Pache wouldn’t have even gotten the opportunity without Duvall getting hurt, but I’d have liked our chances better with Duvall/Pache/Acuna and very limited ABs for Markakis.

I would like to be on record that I would resign Ozuna for whatever amount it takes (use some of that Hamels money if you have to) but I don't want anything other than a one year deal.

I'm not tying myself to him just yet - think he's too hit or miss from season to season.

Really the only one we had a shot at was Clevinger. And he ended up getting hurt. That deal likely would’ve required Pache too.
Covid had the trade deadline all kinds of screwed up. There were some pitchers that normally would've been moved that didn't.

You're not getting him for less that 3-4 years.

The extended playoff format combined with the short season substantially increased the number of teams in contention, which naturally limited the number of sellers.

we really need a winning player at 3rd
Riley's defense is better than I expected, but those strikeouts make him disappear for long stretches. It'll depend on whether they decide to resign Ozuna or upgrade 3B. After Donaldson and Ozuna, something tells me that they'll let Ozuna walk and try to catch lightning in a bottle on a one year deal a 3rd time.

I get what you’re saying but it’s a risk we have to take. Honestly, I don’t think we can afford him. Someone is gonna throw BIG cash monies at him.
Thing is, I don't think we thought he would be forced to sign a one year deal last year either.

I'll go two years if that last one is a team option. But like we saw with Donaldson, AA will set a price and not move from it.
