Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

I don't believe any of the major local networks covered it, but Knox County Schools had its first COVID-related student casualty last week:

That’s awful. Unfortunately, that most likely wont be the last. Another year of this garbage and I’m sure it will really begin to break the spirits of the kids.

Friends of ours have a 16-year-old, and while he's not suicidal or in this bad of shape his parents say he's definitely not handling all this well and is getting more and more isolated from friends. It's no good, and especially stupid forcing isolation of populations that have essentially zero risk of death from this virus.

Something my wife and I have discussed in terms of parenting. We have made a concerted effort to keep our kids busy and active as normal. Honestly, other than forced mask wearing at school, their lives havent changed. Thankfully the parents of each of their friends are like minded and have allowed interactions to continue as normal.

It's difficult being a teen under normal circumstances. When the things we rely upon as foundations in our lives are taken away or changed in a radical way, it is even hard for adults to cope with but when it happens to a teen. . . I hope we haven't forgotten what it was like to be one.

Love your kids while you can.

The poor scenario that exists by dragging this out is that at some point (a year, 2 years, who knows) that immunity does wear off. Then, by enlogating this process you set up a scenario where the people first infected then open back up for infection prior to this virus running its course with the last groups to get infected. So you create the circle, a continuous loop, rather than a road that ends.

If it ran the course quicker, then the last group of people get it and it has no one to latch onto because the first group to get it still has immunity.
This is what I've been arguing with some members of my family about and they just don't get it...its very frustrating.

This is extremely unsettling to me as my daughter made the middle school volleyball team this year and loved it. Some of her games were rescheduled due to Covid, but all were played and parents had to wear masks to attend. This could have been my daughter or one of her teammates if their season had been canceled. But but but grandma.....my ass. This is stupid. We need to move on with life! NOW!

Went camping with friends and to a packed house rodeo last weekend. Played baseball and flag football games last night. One son had a sleepover with 8 friends a couple weeks ago and we're having his bday party next weekend with 15 more kids (and a bounce house) at our house. They go to school and ride the bus daily. We go out to eat when time allows.

There is a demographic for this and we aren't in it. Some people would rather see absolute tragedies than admit their approach was wrong and do what should have been done in the first place

My oldest teenager is a senior and it is effecting her.... I have noticed a change in her so we are monitoring her closely..... I don’t think she would take her on life but you never know about young people and their ability to deal with issues in their life.

The hallmark of the modern left is damn the truth if it damages the team. Lies for the benefit of the team are a-ok too.

My office is having a "retreat" and one of my bosses is opting out for Covid reasons. He says it's not safe for us to gather in large groups.

We will be outdoors, split into groups of 6, wearing masks, and moving around.

Instead he will be staying in the office continuing to work, where he doesnt wear a mask, doesnt social distance, and wants everyone back in the office. The same people he doesnt think is safe to gather in groups of 6 outdoors.

These Karen's make no sense.

Maybe he just doesn't want to do the retreat? I hate those type of events, I'd use it as an excuse too.
