'21 GA ATH Christian Charles (Tennessee signee)

I definitely trust Pruitt's evaluations and there is nothing wrong with taking 3* players. But blue chip recruits on average make it to the NFL more often than 3* kids and we need those type of kids to compete at the top. People here name those 3* players that made it but what about the other thousand we don't hear about?

These are the rates by star ranking of kids who get drafted to the NFL (2016/17):
Five-star: 30 (62.3%)
Four-star: 311 (23.5%)
Three-star: 1,831 (6%)
Two-Star: 1,949 (1.6%)

You can't bring facts into this discussion. Hope rules all.

ok - then it sounds like this is the kind of recruit we need to compete with Bama and UGA...because, you know, Cam Sutton, Jordan Jefferson, and Josh Jacobs. I'm sure we will see results translated on to the field. Right?

I don't understand why we keep telling ourselves every low rated recruit is the next Cam Sutton, etc.. Even if he is, unless we hit 100% on every low rated recruit I don't see how anything changes.

Not knocking this kid at all by the way...I sincerely hope he forces crow down my throat.
Nobody is saying he is the next Cam. They are saying the kid has elite athleticism that could possibly develop into a kid that can play like those guys. I also don’t know why every unranked or three star Tennessee get a bunch of back in my day JV superstars come out saying that recruit isn’t closing any gap with Georgia bc the 247 site or Rivals ranking metrics say so. If some people are that readily wanting to be told what to think by others then I should quit the military and bring back door sales by selling a 5* Hoe “Cuz a 3* won’t cut it”

Because it is possible doesn't mean it is likely. That was a generational team last year. Hope we can hit the slot machine jackpot like they did.

It is far more likely to win a NC with better players, or at the very least, make it to the playoffs.

They didn’t just “get lucky” on guys, they evaluated and found talent, then coached them up to compete with everyone else. What we’re doing right now. What we’re gonna have to do and eventually overachieve somewhere because we’re just not gonna beat Alabama and UGA straight up for a bunch of recruits.. not saying we can’t take a few of them.

I, like you, wish the best for Christian Charles and hope he balls out here at UT and am glad to have him. You aren't bashing the kid, I just don't understand why people get attacked on here for preferring high rated players.

Actually, in this very thread they were using that as an example. Odds are, however, he won't be. That is all I'm saying.

This has nothing to do with being told what to think. This has to do with looking at the sheer statistics. I'm not saying recruiting rankings are 100%. I am saying they are right more often than they are wrong. If that wasn't the case I wouldn't trust 247 or rivals or whatever. But there are a lot of people that do and they are a successful source of information. At the end of the day there is always a direct correlation to the top recruiting rankings and the top poll ratings.

Boom!

All you haters can go back to the FF and talk poorly about the kids commiting to us.

Must be tough for y'all negas to put in all the evaluation work like our coaching staff does for each recruit and still do your job at the Rub and Tug in Sunnyvale with Corey and Trevor.

LSUs starting offense last year

QB Joe Burrow - 4 star (rivals 3 star)
RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire - 3 star
RB2 Tyrion Davis-Price - 4 star
WR Justin Jefferson - 2 star
WR Jamarr Chase - 4 star
WR Terrace Marshall - 5 star
TE Thaddeus Moss - 3 star
LT Saahdiiq Charles - 4 star
LG Adrian McGee - 3 star
C Lloyd Cushenberry - 3 star
RG Damien Lewis - 3 star
RT Austin Deculus - 4 star

I don’t think I need to remind you what this offense did last year

Talent is important but nowhere near as much as coaching
*and a once in a generation QB

More often than not, the stars are the best indicator. It is no mistake UGA, Bama, and OSU make it to the playoffs every year.
They do matter but who saw Stetson Bennett beating Mathis, Kyle Trask forcing a a former 5 star Franks to transfer... some of these kids don’t camp and since these sights can adjust rankings until after signing day it’s not exactly hard to bump the classes of those Universities. If they stopped the ranking update around November then saw how things shake out I believe the results would be a little more surprising.

I’m not saying you in particular. There are those that absolutely rely on the sites to tell them to bitch or cheer.

Pretty good track numbers. I know people joke about the 400m time, but that is a man's race.. Puts hair on your chest...

Again, people keep throwing these names out. Even if 20% of all 3 stars pan out to be superstars (which they don't) that still means 80% of the time they don't.

When a team of 3 stars on an SEC team is in the perennial hunt for the playoffs and SECCG, this Cam Sutton and Kyle Trask argument will hold water. Until then, it is just hopeful thinking.

Not “every”...but they exist. Lot of high profile commits don’t work out, but we get to skip this yawner of a conversation.

Do you need EVERY commit to be above 3 star? Otherwise we’re not even trying to compete? Coaches have to plan for eventualities...not curl into the fetal position.

Well of course there are exceptions.

What do you mean by "a lot"? More 3 stars don't work out than 4 stars, more 4 stars don't work out than 5 stars, etc.. The math and statistics simply don't support relying on the exception to the rule to get it done. I sincerely hope this kid is the exception and I want him to kill it here. Probability simply states that he won't. I'm not trying to be mean, I'm just stating expectations.

You have the percentages of those who developed into stars...HOF inductees?

What? Who said a team of three stars? A 3 star on a team of 4-5 stars can be better. Hence Kyle Trask and Stetson example.. I never said field a full team of 3 stars.

Give me the link and I’ll change my mind. Til then it’s just your take. Chris Donald, Daniel Brooks, Dillan Bates, Drew Richmond, Mitch Mustain...just off the top of my head...there’s LOTS more.
