JJ Peterson Has Left Team

Hasn't loved up to the hype at this point, but I wish nothing but the best for him. Hopefully, it's a temporary thing and he comes backs to the team hungry.

That’s why you can’t compete with the upper echelon until you have a solid two-deep. We still have holes due to where Pruitt inherited the program. And in the case of TE, we don’t have an SEC caliber starter.

The good news is that he’s hit a lot of 3/4 stars that are solid SEC players. The shortcut to the top won’t happen unless we dramatically overrecruit vs our win/loss record. We keep finishing 2nd for a lot of players from Georgia.

Pruitt has a long way to go with roster management/recruiting. QB/TE/RB recruitment has been suspect at best.

Such a huge miss. Kid was all everything rated out of HS. Should be crushing in in middle of an amazing LB corps. But no. Could not even make an impact on special teams. I hope he finds his peace.

It doesn’t matter how good an athlete you are you have to the drive to succeed. Currently, he does not have that drive. For his sake I hope he gets it back even if it is not at UT.
Yes if you come into your first year of college football out of shape and overweight you certainly are not someone who has drive and likely will never have it. Those character traits are learned usually by your early teenage years.

If he came into the program disinterested and out of shape then I'm not gonna sit here and wish him the best of luck. He's an adult now. There are consequences to stupid decisions and not caring. I don't wish him ill will...but ill give him an "I hope you get your s**t together but this is all on you."

Good luck to the young man. If you follow recruiting for any significant length of time, things happen with guys, injuries and other issues. Overtime more 5 stars succeed than 4 stars and more 4 stars succeed than 3 stars, etc. but there are hits and misses at all levels.

The irony..........
He's no superstar at this point for sure, but he did appear in every game last year and as a RS sophomore has 3 years of eligibility remaining after this year since the current year doesn't count toward eligibility.
Another sad case of the high school superstar that beloved his hype would carry on. Showed up fat and out-of-shape and never recovered. Sucks for the kid and the team.

Some people speculate his high school coach Catfished UT........had someone play in the games that was not the kid that showed up at UT.

Misleading title. He hasn't "left the team". He's "away from the team." Which could mean that he'll eventually leave it, but also might not mean that.

He has had a difficult time cracking the rotation, regardless. From the article sounds like Freshman Bryson Eason has passed him on the depth chart.
Good for Eason, let him start over Crouch or Banks. Maybe we can get other Whitehaven guys in the rotation with McDonald at safety.
