i think it's simply because in a zone, you have to be aware of more than just your job. read, recognize, react....and understand what your teammates' responsibilities are, and how it's all supposed to fit together...... that's a mental process that takes a little longer than "go get the guy with the ball" or "stick on this dude here".

as they do it more, get more reps in practice, those mental process speed up and they'll just be able to play.

perfect example was Crouch against MO, when he got beat by the TE. he read, he recognized, but by the time he recognized, it was too late, and he was a step behind the guy and out of position. it was a good throw too, to a tall target, but had Crouch been able to just hold his spot and take the TE right at the snap...who knows...maybe he baits the QB and gets a pick...or at least a pbu.

i don't think passion or want to have much to do with it....i think zone just requires a little more preparation. and really, the only way you get better at it is to do it, put stuff on film and learn from it.....that just takes a little longer to develop....i think by the end of the year, if everyone's still healthy, this defense will be pretty dang good, no matter what situation you put them in.
I personally think this is one of the keys to the game on defense. Our LB's have to cover the middle better especially against TE's. Correct me if I'm wrong but UGA's first play from scrimmage against Auburn was down the middle pass to the TE. That's one area our LB's have been weak this year.

Good question.

Most bow games are socially distanced anyway with the usual low attendance aside from the bigger bowls.

I agree. I was just wondering cause there hasn't been much talk about bowl games. Would hate to see this team work so hard and not get to go to one. BUT much rather them make the playoffs. WOOOHOO!

Since I’ll miss 1/2 the season I want to make it up to Neyland for my first game in Neyland. I wanted to go to the Kentucky game and tickets would be cheaper, but I have rsp drill that weekend. I could go to the Alabama game 🤔
Hope you can go young man. There’s nothing like your first home game and would give you a piece of home to take with you.

Hey got a question. Has anyone heard if there is going a bowl season? I know they are planning a playoff but I haven't heard about if they are doing bowl season and if so how many since there aren't as many teams playing this season? I'll hang up and listen. Oh, and GBO!!

Was watching a game last weekend, and the announcers were talking about a couple of the bowl games being "out" because of logistics. Specifically the Hawaii Bowl. They said that there would be bowl games, but they didn't know how many at this time. And requirements to be eligible will be different as nobody is playing a full 12-game schedule.

Too bad Snit can’t manage. I mean, he can’t even get the Braves to the postseason. Oh, wait. He can’t even win a series. Oh, wait. He can’t even make it to the NLCS. Oh, wait...

Still waiting on Butchna to explain to me how Snit empowers guys to hit homers. As I said, thankfully AA took Ender and Luke Jackson away from Snit. If Jackson was still on the roster, bet we don't sweep.

Unfortunately Flowers is still on the roster and, in spite of Travis playing at an All Star level, I half expect Snit to start Flowers at leadoff in the NLCS.

Hold on to what you need, Bass. How does he “empower” them? I don’t know...maybe the same way Joe Torre got the clutch hitting out of his team...postseason after postseason. He used the talent right and kept them focused. You know pitching was pretty damn good how’d he “mishandle” that? I’ll take not having a reliever as our default luck and not design. Three young guys looking like aces. Sucks to be us. 😎

Bro I can't believe how good the pitching is looking right now. Hopefully that's because they're that good and not because Miami and Cincy are that bad. We have a chance to have a rotation like the 90's again. With this offense too...

Miami and Cincy aren’t great but that hadn’t mattered since 2001. Whoever we went up against would be great for that one series.

All I can say is that the Vols are on an 8 game win streak and the Braves are 5-0 in the postseason.

All the smoker talk in this thread got me like:

It's a joke within the RF since the tax slayer bowl, champ. Read the room.

just to be clear young man, I don’t hold your youth and inexperience against you. I continue to hold out hope that when you are 15 or 16 your taste will change and you will enjoy grown-up beverages with the rest of us. In the meantime, don’t let the grumpy man steal your joy.

I believe that game spawned the thread where the poster mentioned kicking over the bucket of lightbulbs in his basement. Because, of course, we all have a bucket of bulbs laying around in case we need to do some kickin!
I skinned my knee doing a celebratory jump/slide when we “won” ... the pain hurt even more just a few minutes later when we lost.
I was in graduate school and had left my apartment to get to the stadium in time to see Colorado play UGA. My brother was updating me over the phone as I went to the stadium. I lost reception as I got inside, but as luck would have it, a guy in a Tennessee beanie was standing a few rows down updating the game to his friend. I got to him right as he said, "We just won." My eyes lit up. "WE WON?!" "Yeah," he said, "Stopped 'em at the goal line." I pumped my fist and ran out of the stadium. Ran into two professors attending the game who waved at me. "WE BEAT LSU!" I yelled at them as I ran by. I got reception back and my brother called me. We were celebrating when he went "Wait. Hang on. There's a flag." My heart sank. We all know what happened next. In my next class on Monday, my professor said, "Math is hard." I seethed. Still hurts, 10 years later. Oh well. I did get to watch Colorado beat Georgia that night.
