I admit it. I don’t like having Missouri in the SEC

I live in NE Missouri. People are every bit as neighborly, good, and honest as any I experienced growing up and living in the south. If you are going to hold STL against Missouri then UF can't be in the SEC since Tampa, Miami, and much of the state's retirement cities are not "southern". UGA can't be because of ATL. UT and Vandy cannot be because of Nashville and Memphis. You couldn't possibly want VT since the DC area is clearly not "southern".

Thanks. I just alluded to the areas I'm familiar with. I always prefer Country to the City. The Mark Twain National Forest area is like a step back in time. Beautiful as any area I've seen.

FBS programs that would fit the SEC better (geographically and culturally) than Mizzou, by state:
  • Tennessee: Memphis, MTSU
  • Kentucky: Louisville, Western Kentucky
  • Ohio: Cincinnati
  • West Virginia: West Virginia, Marshall
  • Virginia: Va Tech, UVa
  • North Carolina: UNC, NC State, Duke, Wake Forest, App State, East Carolina, Charlotte, Coastal Carolina
  • South Carolina: Clemson
  • Georgia: Georgia Tech, Georgia Southern, Georgia State
  • Florida: FSU, Miami, UCF, USF, FAU, FIU
  • Alabama: UAB
  • Mississippi: Southern Miss
  • Louisiana: Louisiana, La Tech, UL Monroe
So that's 32 FBS schools that would've fit better than Mizzou.

But let's throw out the ones that are too small, because many of those are. We're left with:
  • Kentucky: Louisville
  • West Virginia: West Virginia
  • Virginia: Va Tech
  • North Carolina: UNC, NC State
  • South Carolina: Clemson
  • Georgia: Georgia Tech
  • Florida: FSU, Miami, UCF
Still leaves 10 good choices. All better options than Mizzou.

But let's take out the ones whose TV markets and recruiting beds we already access, or are too puny to worry with. That leaves:
  • Virginia: Va Tech
  • North Carolina: UNC, NC State
Three really good options there. The tidewater area of Virginia is rich in football talent, and expanding into Virginia gives us some pretty good markets, like DC, Norfolk, Richmond, Roanoke, etc.

Trouble with North Carolina is that UNC, NC State, Duke, and to a somewhat lesser extent Wake Forest, they're all tied at the hip. You simply can not get one of them without all of them. Really strong bonds. Especially the first three in the Research Triangle of Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill.

So, this exercise leads us to a simple solution: kick Mizzou to the curb, and invite Va Tech to join the best football conference in America.

Go Vols!

Well reasoned, but you left out Vanderbilt.

They've got great baseball, maybe they should give football a try.

I am, but if you had to stay at 14 and trade for them who would you want to take their place?

Get Clemson and put the ACC out of its misery, make the SEC east the Alpha, and Eliminate the need for a Playoff. The Playoff would be the SEC championship game.

It seems logical that teams geographically located on a map of the Southeast should qualify for the SEC. The problem is found in defining “what logically comprises the Southeast?” For me, this seems about right. View attachment 310866View attachment 310866

You got it about right. Texas A&M and Arkansas obviously belong in the SWC (as they were from jump, and Louisiana is split down the middle to barely qualify) BUT it always comes down to the Money; doesn't it? WVA in the Big 8; with Texas & Okie? That's just stupid.

I get it, but do we need to make life for us anymore difficult for us than it already is?
I did think exactly that thought while writing the post. And you are correct it would be hell but playing Georgia, Clemson, Alabama and the new and improved Florida every year would be worth getting excited about if we keep getting the elite coaches and talent we are currently getting.

It’s probably a get off my lawn moment, but I liked the league better when there were 12 teams. Who’s with me?
Totally agree...I never understood the choice, and haven't fully accepted them as a member.

Of course I still have trouble recognizing South Carolina and Arkansas...so I am not the most progressive fan....to be certain.

Missouri is a waste of space in the SEC.

Even their basketball team is boring to watch.

If we are going to kick them out, can we wait until UT has a winning record against them lol
Haha yeah!

Hopefully that will take only two more seasons after this one.

We're 3-5 now, will hopefully be 4-5 by tomorrow afternoon. Next season we can even it up, and then in 2022 go ahead with a 6-5 advantage.

Then kick them out of the car and get Va Tech to take their place. LOL.

Go Vols!

Playing Mizzou has never felt exciting and probably never will. 14 team would be better if it wasn't Mizzou. them having a little success early and making the SEC championship game made it clear to me they didn't belong. WVU would have been a better option or VT.

Texas A&M was a good addition in the west to get into a football rich state and it's a huge school that cares about football.

MO is just not a SEC team. Cuddos to them for what they accomplished the first few years in the league, and this has nothing to do with where they are right now in the laegue, it's just that any trip to Columbia MO doesn't feel like a trip to an SEC town. VT and FSU would have been much more of a fit. Really, any town in the south! Missouri is not in the south!

They’re pretty much Vanderbilt to me, they don’t belong in the SEC. Whenever you think of SEC teams you think of the rabid fan bases and they do not fit the bill. I feel like Texas A&M is an ok fit. I would have preferred Texas and Oklahoma. Those two teams run that conference though so they really have no incentive to leave.

Agreed, I like tradition and struggle with the change. Missouri is just out of place and should be in the Big12. It would be easier to accept a VT, or a GT. in my head. I do like TAM in the league.

I am, but if you had to stay at 14 and trade for them who would you want to take their place?

No question, our heavy E.Tn. influence would naturally via for teams in that area. However being in one corner of the conference makes it less likely the "other" corners see things the same. I for one (likely only) think it's time to look at Memphis. As a second, someone east.....
