Year 4 ... Same Old JG

truth. and coach said as much post game. at least acknowledged the high balls. It's just... it's just I still wear my Erik Ainge #10 jersey because we haven't had a reliable passer like him since. we haven't been back to the SEC championship since Ainge. I sure would love to trade up jerseys at some point.
Um Bray and Dobbs were some pretty damn good QBs and definitely on the level of if not better than Ainge

That was a pleasant surprise for you?

Not a pleasant surprise for me. Surprised by being let down from a TN QB. Thought he'd play better from some kind of progress. I guess I expected more of a surprise that JG to be on the more improvement side after all this time @ being our QB.

I have been a JG naysayer. I still don't think he is the QB he should be. I don't hate the guy, he just isn't getting it done.

HOWEVER, I saw this last night that is different from last year.
1) Poise, never seemed to panic last night.
2) His feet were moving. Didn't stand flatfooted and take hits. Kept his feet moving and scrambled effectively.
3) At times showed good accuracy and hit open spots vs. hitting where the receiver was.
4) Seems to have more confidence in the game plan vs. being lost most of the time.
5) Game seems to finally have slowed some for him and he seemed surprised when receivers were open when they were supposed to be. I think this is part of his airmailing the ball.

He still doesn't show the skills of a 5 year QB, I would rate him as late sophomore at best. I think there are issues that can be fixed which will help him improve more each week.

Then again, I am still waiting for JG Versions 1 - 4 to show back up. If he can play like he did last night and continue to improve over 3 - 4 games, then I will believe. Haven't seen it yet.
Agree for all his issues, JG didn’t panic and didn’t have turnovers. Which is partly the reason we won. Playcalling was strange at times I thought

Samuel Morse and I've never seen him make an anticipatory throw or throw a receiver open

I just watched JG post game interview. not 15 seconds into it. He says he threw high. He was afraid he was going to get hit. He is scared and mentally not in the game if he is scared.

Um Jarrett; what happened to all the Summer Preparation we kept reading about? Now you have to go back to work? MAN, just relax and play ball! That is your only problem, see the throw and throw it! You are a Senior; and You Just need to RELAX and Play Ball. Last go around for you to shine. Trust yourself. You are one of the best; IF you do that. Let's GO!

Tennessee offensive football is SO HARD to watch with JG at QB. Every time Tennessee gets the ball I feel virtually hopeless. Tennessee has very good players at most every position on offense yet we struggle game after game to score or even sustain a drive over 10-20 yards. JG will NEVER lead this Tennessee team to the top echelon of the SEC East even if he had 5 star players at every position.

To my point, with less than 2 minutes to go in the first half Tennessee gets the ball at the SC 44 yard line and I know from watching the past 3 years of JG ball that Tennessee will fail to score. Sure enough, 1st down ... JG throws behind a wide open back on a 8 YARD pass, INCOMPLETE. 2nd down ... Gray runs for 4 yards. 3rd down ... JG drops back to pass, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 seconds go by as JG stares down a covered receiver and then gets tackled for a loss. 4th down ... Tennessee punts AGAIN!

Gawd ... how much longer are we going have to watch this same scenario play out? Like everything else this year ... it's a LOST YEAR so why on earth don't we play Harrison and let him get some valuable experience and learn about SEC game speed. The best we can hope for with JG is 5-5 or 6-4 at best. If we don't replace JG this year we will be looking at 5th FRICKEN YEAR with JG at QB. GEEZ !!!
Pretty much, this^

If im an Olineman I might be a little miffed at the "scared of getting hit " make me feel like he is passing the buck...idk probably just me

KJ Costello comes out and throws for 600+ yards and 5 TDs in his first game ever with Mississippi State against LSU, and we're here talking about how nice it is that JG didn't turn the ball over.

He's a 5th year senior FFS...
So true! It’s also a major difference in the Head Coach. One loves offense, the other is afraid of it.

I was happy with JG. Sure, timing was off due to lack of practice, but I liked what I saw in him so far. Threw the ball with authority (very deliberate and intentional on every throw) & he showed poise. He is not a Sunday QB by any stretch of the imagination, but he can be a solid game manager for Pruitt.

Yeah, I’m sure with a few more years in the system, he will get the timing.

And yes, every overthrown ball and ball in the dirt reeked of intentionality and authority.

Brother, JG is not a serviceable QB. We all wish he was. He is a fighter and tough as heck, but just not that good as a QB. If you could beef him up a little, sometimes I think he has a FB heart trapped in a QB frame.

Does JG have some real dirt on our coaches? How else can you explain a guy being around this long, and the coaches putting the team at risk time and time again sending him out there. Yes, he makes a good throw every once in a while, but as with the S. Carolina game last night, he keeps us from putting away teams early. He is going to get our receivers killed with those awful late throws behind them, and they have to do all types of acrobatics in order to try to catch most of his throws.

And his decision-making, or lack thereof, has not changed much. He holds the ball too long, and he will not run when he has a clear chance of picking up a first down.

It is not fair to the team to have to fight so hard to overcome his faults. He has had more than enough time to improve. He simply has not.

I understand why you are done with JG. He gave you plenty of reasons in the past to think that way. But, other than timing, I saw some positive things from him last night. He missed a few, but he showed improvement.
