Year 4 ... Same Old JG

JG was throwing the ball to the right spots most of the night. Execution was poor at times, I don’t know that the other qb on this roster protect the football much better.

I thought JG looked pretty good in second half once we established the run.

First half he missed way too many throws.

What worries me more than JG is the pass defense. Never seen so many guys running wide open. Not sure Crouch could cover me. He looked lost when he dropped back in coverage. And Jeremy Banks has to smarter. He has some talent but just makes stupid decisions.

JG showed tonight that he is the guy to lead this offense. When we had a lead built up, and our defense let us down, allowing SCar back into the game with a serious threat to comeback.... JG and the offense stayed calm, and were able to do enough to win the game.

Happy for our offense, hopefully the defense can get it together for next week. As for tonight, I'm thankful we had a QB that didn't make a mistake when the momentum was completely against us. We haven't done such in the past few years.
His sorry ass threw more balls 20yds over peoples heads than he completed

JG is not the guy. SC is terrible, SC defense is terrible. We had enough talent to score 60 tonight. The outcome was uncertain until the muffed punt we recovered. JG’s poor play almost got us beat tonight in a game we should of won by 28 points minimum.
You sound delusional
Thing some folks are missing is your not going beat bama, au,uf, uga with well we missed wide open people high all night long.

Agreed. But it's the 1st game. I expect a lot less of that next week against Mizzou.

Always nice to read these sort of posts after we get gifted a win, and after watching the performances of QBs like Kyle Trask and KJ Costello earlier in the day.

The reason USCjr almost beat us was they had a QB and we didn't. I suspect his stats were very good except the INT which was really a deflection by the receiver.

Not trying to get in on the JG bashing but this game was as close as it was because we were 1-10 on third downs and the 1 was a circus catch.

He air mailed several passes and threw behind multiple wide open receivers. Other than that, he did ok.

Look guys I get it but look at it like this we have football and we have a UT win let’s celebrate the win and let’s hope most of this stuff gets cleaned up.
who woulda thought we would be playing now? We need to get more discipline to Banks and some of the guys barking.. it will cost Tennessee and saw some things that could have costed them a penalty or kicked out the game.. I guess ya can’t take the dirty Dova from the kid.. I enjoy what Banks did to get back but he needs to calm the f down.. anyways Tl;dr Go VOLS!!

Guarantano did not turn the ball over and that is what you need most from a senior quarterback.

He did throw the ball high and had a couple of throws dropped.

Chandler and Gray led a sturdy running game that ate up yardage on that last drive before Brooks delivered that great rugby punt.

Anytime the Vols can get a road win in SEC play is a very nice sight especially in Columbia where they have struggled for the most part since South Carolina entered the league.

The "right spot" was 10 yards out of bounds? Because when you throw the ball that high over your receivers, that's where the ball goes.

Looked good running the ball on that last TD drive, but his accuracy has definitely left a lot to be desired so far.
Watching JG for as long as we all have, I'm beginning to think its comparable to my golf game. I could play every day for the rest of my life, and every now and then, hit some good shots, but on the whole, there is a ceiling I'd hit and it's a mental and physical ceiling. Hoping the off season, second year under Chaney, and the healing of his hand would put him in one of the elite qbs - all coming together. Gotta say, there were some things I saw from him that weren't bad at all. Didn't slide on his run and picked up some yards with some nifty moves. Found Gray on an flea flicker outlet that worked out nice. But those third down passes where the guy is open and he puts it in the bleachers.. THAT is my golf game in a nutshell.

👆🏻 How many of you read this whole thing? ☝🏻

He throws high or behind. I dont expect every pass to be a completion but if half of his high or behind passes were a little more catchable then we would have won by 2 scores without the TD on defense.

I was hoping second year under Chaney would show improvement but I didn’t really see it in this game.
