Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has passed away

Trump has said the SCOTUS nominee will be a woman. You all going to give him the same grief you gave Biden?
Isn’t it sad how low of a standard we hold our politicians to nowadays.... we don’t even make them pretend they are not pandering..... At least both could have pretended they were going to pick the best person.... put out a list of candidates....trump could pick the female..... Biden could pick the black female..... Both could then tell us how they were overwhelmingly the best candidate for the American people( whether they are or not)

And they "have the votes" before the nominee has even been announced? Hmmm.... Will they still go through with the charade of a hearing or just get right to the Senate vote? It doesn't sound like a Senate hearing would even matter.

Who needs a hearing? All they need to make sure of is that she'll overturn Roe v. Wade and make it hard to vote for brown and black folks.

You have a time machine. You go back to 2009. Do you pick Nick Saban or The Dalai Lama as UT's next head football coach?
I'll take Peyton over Ryan.
And then inform every coach, recruiter, NFL exec., and every person charged with hiring/promoting anyone in any way, that it has been decided that character really doesn't matter after all. It will change their whole paradigm...it will be very freeing.....like for the voters.

I'm not a sure as you about it. Doubtful pre-election. Toss up post election unless Trump win and R retained control of Senate

Whether pre or post election I see the senate confirming his pick. Vote will probably be post election because either way the election goes what do they have to lose?

I grew up in the 50s when a kid could safely walk from home to a movie and have a great afternoon for 25 cents; it's not hard at all to be cynical of what I see today.
“Children; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. They no longer rise when elders enter the room, they contradict their parents and tyrannize their teachers. Children are now tyrants.”
Socrates, circa 470BC.

This is a pointless game. I'll concede what has already been established:
I think character is an important quality - you think that is illogical.

Look on the bright side, Luther. They can NEVER claim the moral high ground again after Trump. They are fervently supporting an adulterer who has been married at least 4 times, who openly brags about sexually assaulting women, who makes fun of soldiers who died defending our country, who makes blatantly racist and xenophobic comments and does not denounce others who do, and the list goes on and on. They have sold their souls to stay in power and will never be able to claim some type of moral superiority like they have in the past.

You should be a Lawyer the way you lie so fluently

You are just wanting to argue for the sheer hell of it and acting really stupid.

1) Scalia's seat was vacant for over a damn year! It is obvious that RBG's seat will be filled by the end of December (that is 3 months from now!). Trump will make his choice and his nominee will be confirmed before the December recess. That is NOT speculation. That is applying sound logic and reasoning to the situation.

Determining "hypocrisy" only requires an understanding of the definition of the word. Here you go!:

HYPOCRISY: noun .... The practice of claiming to have moral standards or beliefs to which one's own behavior does not conform; pretense.

McConnell and Cruz have displayed "hypocrisy" by claiming that it was standard to (in their own words) not fill a Supreme Court seat during an election year. They insisted that the winner of the 2016 Presidential election should be the person to fill Scalia's seat. We are even closer now to a Presidential election than we were in 2016 when Scalia died. However, both McConnell and Cruz now insist that because the same party as the President is in control of the Senate - that this makes for an exception. They made no such allowances in 2016. This is hypocrisy... and you are being quite partisan, on top of being ignorant.
Remember the Affordable Care Act? The democrats enacted it because they could....same type situation here....

All true.
I've said all along that Trump will be an albatross around the republican neck forever.

The vote is happening. Mitch would never float it unless he had the votes. With that said, the GOP is basically burning every bridge they have for it with Millennials.

I wonder what the hurry is to do it before the election? There is one thing that I can think of, and that is Martha McSally's seat in Arizona. Because she was appointed to John McCain's old seat, that is considered a special election. If Mark Kelly wins, and he is leading in every poll, then he can take the seat in November after the results have been certified. There is not a wait until January, like everyone else. That does just explain one vote, however.

Kelly is going to beat her like a drum. But it isn't going to matter. Mitch has the votes, he wouldn't have brought it up if he didn't.

Not all millennials and wouldn’t you agree that if the left hadn’t spent 4+ years biting every bridge with the right it would be a lot harder to push this through ? I don’t know why politicians haven’t learned yet that you can only stack sh!t so high before it falls over onto your head .

Almost all the millennials.
The bridges were burned by the nomination, election, and continued support of a horrendously despicable human as POTUS.

I don't know if this is the best response.
BB is above the whole "whataboutism" evil. lol (ANd then he immediately does it.

Let's see about this one...

Kavanaugh had his character assassinated and went through hell. Garland just didn’t get a vote.
Boo hoo, cry me a river and all the other metaphors. Garland was qualified and a reasonable nominee. He didn't get a vote. Kavanaugh is on the court.

Character assassination and accusing a man of being a pedo serial rapist as his kids watch? No biggie. The Rs refused to vote on a nomination for Obama.

No there’s always choices to be made . You don’t get to lay everything off on the right nominating Trump . After his nomination ( people had choices ) after his election ( people had choices ) during his term ( choices ) after he’s gone ( choices ) .. again you can’t keep standing up bad choices and not expect them to eventually bite you in the azz

Fair enough... but there is no need to go through with any dog and pony show hearing. I've never heard a Senator publicly announce that his party had the votes to confirm someone as a Supreme Court Justice before the President had even announced who they are yet.

Was he saying that he has the votes for a hearing, or for a confirmation?
