Same. I really wanted him as our next HC as well. Interested to see what he does after a stint at Alabama. DC or HC again. Definitely worth a DC look, still.

The thing that baffled me about his Texas stint was how bad their defense was. It gradually got worse while he was there

Umm, don't you have somewhere to be??? Get off Volnation, and go escort your daughter down the aisle to give her away to her soon to be husband! Then, bring your moran butt back on here and let us know how things went.
“Her daddy said, he ain’t worth a lick! When it comes to brains he got the short end of the stick!”

Is that H1N1? I remember a dozen strains referred to as swine flu. That is the medium for most flu strains. I remember one coworker who caught H1N1 right after he had recuperated from another strain. Very nearly killed him.
It really messed me up. I have not ever been that sick for that long. On the flip side...I rarely get sick with anything anymore even though I am around sickness during flu season almost every day. About the worst thing I get are seasonal allergies.

Anyone know what kind of tests the players are taking? There’s an article in The NY Times today talking about how many false positives the PCR test produces. It often detects dead virus (the person could’ve had COVID months ago) meaning the person is no longer contagious. This is the test I’ve heard mentioned the most and it’s pretty dumb to base policy decisions from case numbers when the tests are this sensitive. I really hope this isn’t what was used to cancel practice yesterday.
There's only 2 diagnotic tests, and if true they'd both be susceptible to false-positive from a "dead" virus. Molecular test (PCR) - a super reliable scientific method that reads genetic material of the virus - and antigen tests - this test looks for the proteins on the surface of the virus. Diagnotic tests are supposed to tell you if you have an active infection. That's because you HAVE to have a viral body on the swab. Theoretically, I suppose you could have dead viral bodies in the nasal cavities from some time before; however, these athletes have been getting tested regularly so you'd suspect they would have tested positive before now if this were the case. Also, folks test negative days after recovery I believe. That leads me to believe there's either a natural flushing of the sinuses, or an element to the test that requires a "live" virus. Also, to rule out false-positives don't they retest to get a second positive?

The third test is an antibody test. That's the blood test that tells if the patient has any antibodies for the disease in question. This was big early on until, I think, they realized that the antibodies are so close to those for the common cold that we can't really tell them apart, and the prevalence of the antibodies deminishes after a relatively short time. So, it's not as reliable. (Pro: it appears are T-cells maintain memory, so reinfection is low/not severe)

This is all my understanding from my readings. Conclusion: they're probably using PCR, if not then antigen, and I don't think that's a huge issue. They should retest when there's a positive anyway, and after 7-10 days without symptoms they should be back.

I caught H1N1 a week after recovering from flu. Between the two, I got an ear infection that blew out my eardrums and the swine flu pushed my fever over 104. Eardrum didn't regenerate due to the fever and I had to have reconstructive surgery on it. That flu sucked. I was in 8th grade.

Go to EthicalSkeptic on Twitter for info on this. He/she has charts demonstrating it.

The only period of time I was susceptible to illness was when I had a shift partner who had two elementary school student kids. During that time I picked up everything.
