The Republican Convention Thread

Then why are you so confident that any parent should be able to home school their kids?
Who said I was confident all parents can teach their own child? I feel sorry for the children of parents that can't.

It seems to me that you said this:

I would hate to be the parent that can't teach their own child and needs the government to do it for them.

Education is one of the roles of our gov't. Courts have ruled that we have a Constitutional right to an education:

You make it sound like every parent should be capable of educating their child. That's ludicrous. This is a basic role of gov't and it's a role for a reason.

If you can't teach your kid to read then you're an idiot. It's called personal responsibility to teach your own kids. The lawsuit was about providing ever student with the same resources across the state if they attend public school. I agree with the ruling.

Teaching them to read or do basic math is different than physics, calculus, history, French, etc

How do you teach your kids basic math? I had a coworker that worked with his kids over the summer a few years ago and taught them multiplication tables. The next fall the teacher read him the riot act and told him that they don't teach multiplication tables anymore, they do common core math. To this day I can do in my head what 8X4 or 9x8 is in a second. Now kids have to work out some stupid time line and approximate. WTF?

It's still math. Your coworker likely told you a story

Speaking of multiplication tables.

I used to have a "shy bladder" meaning I had trouble taking a piss in a crowded bathroom. One day this guy told me to do my multiplication tables in my head and it would help and I'll be damned if it didn't. Could have a full stream going in no time.

He should have told the teacher to kindly shove her common core up her big stinking behind

Yep. Is it the governments job to do that for you if your child desires to learn those subjects? Now I'm a firm believer in public education and giving people, not just kids, the best resources to advance the collective intellect of society. Are you with me or is it just about the structure our government can provide young kids more than the education?
