Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

Crazy busy now, as we are finally seeing all the "normal" stuff that hits every fall. I've never seen it get this bad this quickly, and I assume it's due to everyone's immune systems having basically no challenges for 6 months.

Schools have lost their ever-loving minds -- sending kids home for any of a laundry list of vague symptoms. I'm doing my part to try to get them back to school ASAP.

The consensus from parents thus far is certainly that the virtual learning option is a disaster and a joke. It sucks to think how negatively-impacted the education of millions of children is going to be this year.

Judging from the 10-15 emails I've received today from KCS educators, I may have reached my saddest point during this pandemic.

I see no real effort concentrated towards teaching my children. The arrogance of these people to think I would entrust my children to them if I were worried about this virus. You are an educator, do that job.

Some teachers are trying their best to teach and be a positive impact on the kids, but many teachers aren’t. And to top it off, KCS still doesn’t seem to know what they’re doing. They’ve made it more chaotic then it should have been. I just learned there’s a massive issue with the Microsoft program they’re using that should have been caught a long time ago.

Any chance it isn't increased prevalence - just increased sensitivity to illness by schools/parents?

Are the fetuses in your question sentient yet? Early on in gestation, I'd argue they don't have a choice because they wouldn't be capable. Later on I would entertain the argument that could or may have achieved sentience, which is why I wouldn't support late term abortion.

I am hopeful that the southern states are truly coming down off their peak, which was late July (but flatlined through early August - see Excess Death analysis below). Hopefully just in time for football :).

Perhaps there are some plains states that haven't seen their full level of cases yet. And maybe there is still another run of this thing come next winter - but for now case, hospitalization, and - soon, I think - deaths are all going to be looking better. There is a chance schools starting turn that around - but I like the data today as it stands, at least.

It appears this entire first week of in school teaching is geared towards showing these in school students how to function as virtual students.

Schools could cause a small spike. But there is the theory that people that are choosing to start back schooling in person are among the people that have been living a fairly normal life the past 6 months regardless. So perhaps many have already been exposed.

That is an interesting thought.

We have definitely changed lifestyle since March, but we made the decision to send the kids back to in-person (they are currently virtual until schools go in-person here after Labor day for those who elected that). So, I wasn't thinking about it in that way....
