If its 70% effective, combined with recovered immunity if it holds, herd immunity should take care of the rest.

70 percent would be a little bit of a stretch. Certainly would need some luck to get there. And how many year would that take? Even if we are that lucky?

There are currently 143 companies working on a vaccine. I’m not an expert on flu vaccine but don’t think there is that much investment in it. Also quoting Faucci is slippery as his story seems to change from time to time.

Can't disagree with you there sir.

The big question is the stability of the virus. Some cold's are Corona viruses that mutate, in which there is no vaccine. This one will mutate weaker, and out of existence. There is also some evidence that herd immunity has been achieved naturally in some places already, which would mean that it is stable, and that while a vaccine would be effective, so would just getting exposed and recovering. Can't have it both ways, right?

165,000 dead Americans now just imagine how many more people would have died if we hadn’t shutdown the country back in April.

Unfortunately, the country-by-country data shows the case/death pattern to be virtually the same regardless of countermeasures. It seems the best approach would have been to utilize proven viral protocol strategies while protecting the elderly and not send infected people into nursing homes which accounts for over one-third of the deaths.

Functioning is not a one to one for protected. You may be fine and contract it and end up dead.

You may be fine and contract it and end up fine but spread it to others who die.

You may not listen to guidelines and be fine and never get it.

But because option 2 is there, it is part of the governments purview

It's not part of the "government's purview", which is why the country is so split right now.

How is the safety and security of its citizens not?
If you put that on the govt then your complete nanny state is about to take over. I'm tired of coddling able bodied citizens who can't be bothered to take care of themselves

Define nanny state?

How is it coddling able bodied citizens?

Which right is it trampling?

Right of assembly, free exorcise of religion - 1st amendment
I think the 5th amendment is being violated with the closing businesses because people are being deprived of property without due process.
The 9th amendment is absolutely being trampled with the stay at home orders.

I'm with ya, I think that religion should be exorcised.

Telling citizens what the can wear and where they can go, how business can be conducted under threat of it being taken from them, etc. We know who is most vulnerable and how to protect them. Thankfully school systems are opening and we may even get football. About time common sense took over

The eviction moratorium is nutty - how is it constitutional for the government to invalidate private contracts like lease or rental agreements?

Definitely out there and not sure how it can be enforced. I've not read the details but are property taxes also suspended? Insurance premiums? The number of things tied to "rent" is pretty long

There is precedent in US history for all of those things, which our government did during WWII.

No, they are not and neither are foreclosures on multifamily properties.

I think there's going to be a reckoning, there will be a day in the not so very distant future where renters that have mistaken the moratorium for "free" have a moment of clarity. The $600 stay at home checks they've wasted on Amazon tchotchkes and PS4's will not be accepted as rent.
