Instead we're outside while the entire state burns down around us.

I'm under no illusions that Abrams would've been any better. Cuomo was a disaster. Whitmer is a disaster. Newsom I don't really have many thoughts on.
The entire state is burning down around us? What? What state you loving me? We’re doing just fine we’re I’m at here in Atlanta

I’ve had it and not so much as a sniffle. My wife has been down like the flu. However, I lost a friend to it who died about 10 days after getting it. It certainly is real when someone is for whatever reason part of that 1%. It kills at a much faster time frame than something like the flu. I hope finding out what causes people to be in the 1% is figured out soon.

I agree. It is sad for those individuals and their families

Athens and Tifton are out of ICU beds. That seems bad.
Not true actually:

“On July 24, the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency reported that Region E, which includes Athens-Clarke County, did not have any critical care unit beds available. However, this figure can vary greatly from day to day, and by the next day, the number of available critical care beds had bounced back to 11. Although those with coronavirus cases can take critical care beds, they may also be occupied by people who need medical treatment for other issues as well.”

That is for developing nations and tbh, they are in a no win scenario. But that doesn't apply to us or any other developed nation that doesn't have issues with malaria, diarrehea etc. being life threatening illnesses to children and newborns. The report is correct that indiscriminate lockdowns aren't a magic bullet. They will do more harm than good in a lot of places that have other issues to worry about.

What city Bass? I’m in Smyrna about ten minutes from the Battery... And if you didn’t hear about Covid constantly on the news, I wouldn’t know much is going around here....

People who question Covid figures care just as much as those who don’t.

There is collateral damage around the globe due to the disruption. This reaction worldwide is unprecedented, and now that we have a good gauge of the virus’ threat... can be reasonably deduced to have been far too strict.

This is heartbreaking and preventable:
Virus-linked hunger tied to 10,000 child deaths each month

The CDC director suggests the side effects of our reaction were too punitive. Never again should we lockdown. This was a real scare, killing real people. And has absolutely been a dry run for the “next” big one. I hope we have a better handle next time and don’t freak out.

Each nation has to weigh the threat of the virus against other threats. Unfortunately for third world/developing nations they are in a no-win scenario. I hate it but the leaders of those nations are choosing to comply with western standards on containment/suprression of the virus over the interests of their own people. They have weighed the threat of losing economic ties once covid is contained globally against the impoverished in their nation and have decided they would rather deal with containment in the hopes of keeping business and economic ties once things reopen over taking care of the immediate needs of their people. These nations should've opened alternative distribution avenues so things like the nutrition kids normally recieve at schools is still doled out but their leaders have failed them.

The average age of someone who dies of/with COVID is 81 or so, likewise, with aggravating conditions or circumstances. What’s to stop me from applying your same logic to those people? I’m not really just trying to point out that it’s killing children. I’m saying we are being myopic about this whole thing. There are adults dying, too. People are committing suicide, or abusing drugs. We’ve saddled our children and grandchildren with massive debt through these stimulus checks (about $60k per family). I shouldn’t have to say this, but I’m not minimizing the losses that people have suffered. I just want to point out that the way to get through this shouldn’t be a top down, technocratic protocol because the calculations of a few pale in comparison to the capacity of every person on earth making decisions for the good of themselves and their families.

Update: my mother went from no symptoms to waking up at 4am with a high fever and body aches. I think my sister does not have pneumonia. It's all Covid.

Another note, my dad and mom have no plans to get tested. For every questionable case that gets counted as a positive, I'm certain there are equal or more situations where people know they have it but don't get tested. This happens with the flu as well. The numbers will never be exact. Doesn't mean they're worthless (statistical theories exist to account for the discrepancy between reported and actual values), but worth understanding. I'd say it's more likely the actual cases are lower than reported (due to people who showed mild symptoms or like my family's case) and I wouldn't be able to refute the notion that actual deaths is lower (due to scenarios we've all been aware of).

But it certainly isn't fake. It's very contagious. It's very dangerous. It's very serious. I sure as heck don't want it. Especially not knowing how my body will handle it.

Definitely prayers sent 🙏

Smh.... Georgia is going to kill it
