Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

You seem to advocate for online or distance learning instead of in person. That will absolutely hurt the academic advancement of many kids. Especially in those large school systems pointed out earlier

The fact that such a large % choose in person learning means the most vocal are a small minority. They should not be allowed to dictate policy

I guess if I were a school board head or something, I would be focusing on online learning for the time being, while focusing in-person learning for those who can't easily be accommodated via internet, or other factors.

But, I'm not, and I wouldn't expect the contingent situation to last indefinitely.

I swear you guys don’t
Israelis Fear Schools Reopened Too Soon as Covid-19 Cases Climb

Coronavirus: 1,286 students, teachers infected in Israel

If you actually read the first article, in its entirety, and get passed the healing you might meant something. No consensus that the schools opening caused this. Many suspect it has to do with the broader reopening of the country. Numerous people discussing going to large weddings. Do you think it’s that, or very other country has just gotten lucky with schools? Or, perhaps, you think you are smarter then one of the lead epidemiologists in England.

Israeli teacher dies of Covid after begging parents to keep infected kids home – J.

I guess the article might be blocked. But the data from Korea is revealing that their is little difference from adults starting around age 10.
I notice that too not just from SK. I'm sure people haven't been trying to mislead by posting articles like "kids can't pass it to adults" and "no pupil has ever infected a Teacher.

The science says K-5 schools can open.

Looks like knox co is around 70% want to return to traditional school. Guessing that will be pretty consistent around the country for places given the option.
In Hamilton county 25% of parents picked the online options. 50% didn’t respond so they default to the live/online option the county goes with. I guess the death camp classrooms aren’t that scary if you can’t even be bothered to choose.

So our pediatrician said anyone visiting the new baby needs to quarantine for four days before doing so. We passed that along to the BIL and wife. Their response is they won’t visit until two weeks after the last person visits. They are also holding school/Dr appts against us. In other words if the kid goes to the dr the clock starts over. So we have a doctor giving advice, and the Twitter/FB brain trust responding “ackshually”. I wonder how many families this is going to split apart.

Congratulations. Hang in there.

par for the course with parental involvement with the kids education. You better believe that those that didn't respond will be the loudest critics regardless of what format is chosen.

Mask wearing reduces spread. It's not just fact, it common sense.

Ok, non-biased one, tell me at what age a school-aged child is likely to spread as easily as an adult? I'll just tell you that the data is out there, and Trump with his thumb on the CDC, isn't eager to have that data shared officially.
So the Fauci of exactly 3 months ago had zero common sense, but he grew some in the last 3 months? That's pretty remarkable for someone who is that old.

I didn't say there was no risk. That's the thing you seem to not understand. There are no choices with no risk. The countries that have opened schools have shown minimal outbreaks within schools, and precautions will be taken. The data and the opinion of medical doctors is crystal clear that reopening schools is the right idea.

The missing link? Children and transmission of SARS-CoV-2

They assessed 392 contacts of 105 index cases in Wuhan, China (they had more stringent eligibility criteria to ensure they had correctly identified the index case in the household i.e. the person who brought the infection in). Of the 100 contacts under 18 years of age, only four became infected. This was compared to an attack rate of 21.9% among adult household contacts (making an overall attack rate of 16%).

From the studies listed above we can determine:

  • Children appear significantly less likely to acquire COVID-19 than adults when exposed
  • There is reasonable evidence that there are significantly fewer children infected in the community than adults
  • Children are rarely the index case in a household cluster in the literature to date
  • It is not clear how likely an infected child is to pass on the infection compared to an infected adult, but there is no evidence that they are any more infectious

Several studies have found that overall, people under age 18 are between one-third and one-half as likely as adults to contract the virus, and the risk appears lowest for the youngest children.

The data doesn't exist until it does. If someone wants to be stubborn and stick with old data, that's on them, physician or otherwise.

That's a catch-22 that would leave everyone in their basement until forever.

Just to be clear, I'm not saying there is zero case at all for limiting school openings, even though I disagree with it.

I'm just saying that the implication that opening schools is some rash pro-Trump anti-science position is simply wrong.

The data in combination with the professional opinions that are currently out there lean toward opening schools.

I get that. I just hope parents and the population in general are informed enough to make the best decisions.

I mean say what y'all will,we wouldn't have all of this mass hysteria if this happened outside of an election year.

No, I meant that if he kisses his wife, they aren't putting each other at risk, and the odd fellow still has his on... while the next nearest person is nowhere to be seen.

Maybe pen a stern letter... just not too stern, like some are doing
That totally debunks the pro-mask crowd's argument though right? The masks aren't to protect yourself but others. If Dr. Fauci doesn't care enough to protect someone's health sitting inches from him why berate others? Understand the hypocrisy here?
