Recruiting Forum Football Talk II

Disregarding the COVID talk, has anyone else imagined what Volnation would look like if we had Florida’s class? Can you imagine how many people we’d have to talk off the ledge if our recruiting class was like the Gators? Like even after our hot steak in April, we’re still not satisfied.... I can’t imagine what it’d be like if our highest rated commit released a top 6 after committing to us, or one of our best players flipped to Boston College of all places. It would be a shitstorm. I would obviously trade records with them, but it’s truly mind boggling how they have failed to bring in the type of players they usually do after the success they’ve recently had. Idk, Mullen is a good coach, but If you’re winning 10 games a year, you should be locking down top talent... what’s gonna happen when the roster thins out and he’s left to his own players? It’s just crazy that they aren’t locking down top 5 classes

Love to rag on the Gators‘ annual offseason of shenanigans and embarassing mishaps, but they’re top 10. Probably not stay there though.

My Father-in-law lost his battle. He went peacefully with loved ones in attendance. I believe that he is in a better place. No longer hurting snd able to walk again. As gruff as he could be, he will still be missed.

My all time favorite experience with him:
My in-laws came to visit in the Fall, shortly after we moved to Knoxville. He and I went to play golf. It sprinkled on us through the first 15 holes. It started raining harder on the 16th hole. Players were leaving the course. He asked if I wanted to finish the round, of course I did (no lightning). It was raining so hard by the 18th hole that we could barely see the golf balls. We finished and were totally soaked.

We get back to my house, get showered and dry. Then my wife asks if I still plan to go to Neyland to the football game? I say of course, Tennessee is going to beat Georgia. Wouldn’t miss it. She looks to her Dad. His response was what the hell, why not! I gave hime an Orange and White poncho that was really long (I am 6’ tall) it barely passed his knees at 6’7”.
We stayed for the whole game. Tennessee crushed Georgia 38-13 before 106K screaming Volunteers.

He told the story of that day repeatedly over the years. He always ended it with the statement: “The driest that I was that day was while I was taking a shower!” Then he and I would laugh because that was true.

I will miss Big Jim.

Thank y’all very much for your prayers.
What a great tribute and memory! I am very sorry for your loss. Prayers for all of you.

We're not. COVID is gonna be a thing for the rest of our lives, imo. What we're doing now is playing whack-a-mole and keep-the-curve-down until vaccines arrive. But, imho, we will be getting COVID shots every year once a vaccine is a available. The H1N1 flu that killed everyone in 1918 is why we get flu shots all the time -- we still don't understand what made that version of h1n1 so deadly compared to all the other h1n1 flu bugs we've had in the 100 years since.
WWI and advances in plumbing/water treatment/waste removal are what make the difference.

Prayers for peace and hearts to be healed from your family's loss, Doc. Sounds like Big Jim was one of those bigger than life characters.
Thanks Vols4us. He was, couldn’t get out of his own way most of the time, put his foot in his mouth more times than I can count, impressive with his size 14s. But definitely loved his family.

Thanks Orangredblooded.
To people I like, you can call me ORB. Ive been praying for you alI and will continue to. I lost my ex mother in law a few years ago and the loss is still felt to this day. God will give you the the strength to hold up to be everything you need to, for your wife especially, and for your family while being there for you also.

I'm sorry. I will make sure to hug my dad next time I see him

Thank you for the prayers.

Dad has been discharged from the hospital. He’s off oxygen and starting to regain his appetite.

Given his fight with dementia, we thought COVID was likely the end. But he’s stubborn, and his nurse - God bless her - shared her concern about his condition early, and he received the care he needed quickly.

Don’t understand this virus. It seems to take folks much healthier than my dad.

And honestly, there have been a few times over the past couple of years where I thought my dad was ready to quit. But he’s recovering, and while I know he has a fight ahead, I get another chance to talk to him tomorrow, and I am so thankful for that.

Mark chapter 2 has meant a lot to me over the past decade - for many reasons. I’m thankful for the folks in this thread - thankful for the privilege to pray for you in your time of need and thankful for the comfort in knowing how many of you are praying when a need is shared.

So very sorry for your loss, brother. God bless you and yours, you’re in my prayers. He’s in a far better place, that’s for sure.

Mark ch 2 is amazing and full of wisdom. Thankful for brothers and sister in Christ although I only know many of you through a screen name and your love for all things Pantone 151 🍊. God bless and go Vols!
