Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

Maryland Governor Larry Hogan op-ed on the nonexistent federal response to Coronavirus.

Mirrors a lot of the complaints that were being discussed here during that time.

All of this probably needed to be said, but Hogan was somebody I had hoped would take a prominent role in the GOP after Trump. The fact that he’s now criticized Trump to this degree probably means that won’t happen. The Trumpkins will hate him forever, just like they’ve hated every other voice of reason in the party.

He and Romney can team up to make a run in 2024.

Lots of people suddenly become Nostradamus in hindsight and speak out of their ass.

It's easy to blame Trump, but I still contend response should have been more on state and local government than federal government. Governors should be held more accountable on something like this than the President, IMO. And no, that's not a defense of Trump. I guess it's all about how you view government, and who you think should have what powers. I think we rely too heavily on federal government, which is what has allowed them to seize more power than they were ever intended to have.
Naturally, i agree with much of your post.

If you go back to the beginning of this, DJT took steps to mitigate the risk with travel bans and airport "lockdowns". I guess those things fall under the president's discretion due to Federal Borders and Customs and the FAA. Once the virus gets in and starts spreading, I am not sure what else the president is supposed to do. Can the POTUS force compliance of governors/states in this situation?

It's Trump, so I'm sure he thinks he can force compliance.

Trump definitely shoulders some blame for all of this. But nowhere near the extent his haters contend. It’s kind of funny. I remember Fauci said he and Dr Birx went and met with Trump to discuss things and he said Trump listened. You see some state government people blaming Trump and speaking in hindsight. Oh well if Trump did this we would be out if this mess. That’s hypothetical BS. There isn’t a single person on this planet that knows that.

Trump is the easy target. But these mayors and governors are the ones who shoulder the biggest blame imo.

At some point it may become necessary no? I mean if you were Trump, how long would let the state officials continue to let their states and cities degrade before you step in?
I don't see the federal government usurping the power of state or local governments as a good thing.

States Rights......Conservatives believe in Individuality of States.
That works for Trump not issuing federal mandates, but not for a doctor who is a supposed expert on the subject issuing recommendations. He should have been advising governors on how to best handle the situation.

Justin, pretty soon you are going to run out of places that you can go. Businesses are starting to mandate mask wearing. A piece of cloth for 30 minutes while you shop shouldn't inhibit the bodily functions of a big strong healthy guy like yourself.
The places I go are still showing some common sense for now, the only place I have went in the last 2 weeks that had a sign requiring a face mask was a Subway and only about 1 out of 12 was wearing one. It was beautiful.
