Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

Since I gave up the big company gig in 2010 I haven’t been in many refineries or petrochemical plants though that’s where I made my living for 35 years.

There was that one trip to Canada in 2013 or 2014 as a consultant to help run activation of a reactor in an ammonia plant in Medicine Hat. But the thing that stuck out on that trip was a big deer that crashed into my rental. Lucky for me it was a solid little Volvo, so I survived, but both the deer and the car were dead meat. The Volvo had to get towed back to Calgary.

Since we heavy haul everything is hurry up and wait on permits from state to state but if I’m anywhere close to some place that the state is know for I’ll go and check it out food or attractions . Like any long trips mostly it’s boring but there are times you can see and dine on some amazing things with a little effort . We all bought RC cars and helicopters to help pass the times we were stuck over the weekend somewhere .

I’ve been in ever state multiple times except Alaska and the Hawaii. Been to Canada and Mexico
I actually got to take a business trip the first time I went to Hawaii, trying to get a catalyst order from a big gas plant. A couple years later we took the family for a week. Two years ago I finally took up my buddy’s offer to go to Alaska where he’d recently retired as owner of a couple NAPA store (we were best friends growing up in Knoxville). That only leaves Idaho and South Dakota on my bucket list. Trying to talk the old lady into moving to Idaho, not going to happen. But I would like to see Mount Rushmore...

Both are beautiful in their on way . Idaho and Montana is probably my favorites places but I’d hate to spend the winter in either . If you go to SD to see Rushmore you guys have to stop in Sturgis just for the cool tourist stuff they have . I wouldn’t go when the rally is on unless it’s your thing . It’s a bit “ Hectic “ 😂

I can’t remember if I’ve asked or not before . Did you travel in Pennsylvania much and what’s the biggest Stromboli souvenir ever seen ? Lol
I actually lived in the Poconos for 6 years (1988-1994) about 20 minutes from the Delaware Water Gap and commuted into Paraippany,NJ (110 mile round trip). Used to ride my motorcycle all over the place on the weekends. If I wanted stromboli or anything else Italian, my Aunt Mary’s house in Elizabeth, NJ (where my Mom was from) was the place to go. Loved that woman like my own mother, may she Rest In Peace.

I found a little place with a stone oven and the biggest Stromboli I’ve ever seen LOL. The bottom one is the “ regular size “

I remember that picture you posted, of a “little” house in Montana and the view across from it. I imagine Idaho is a lot like Montana. I made two trips to Montana many years ago, first time after my sophomore year at UT in a little Triumph, and two years later (1976) upon graduating it was an epic motorcycle trip, joined in Ames by the buddy who wound up in Alaska. Both times camping in mid September in Glacier Park.

I've always wanted to go out there. A friend of mine and her hubby and kids pulled their camper out there about three weeks ago and just got home.
I had a sister-in-law (RIP) who lived there who spelled it "Ihoda." HA

I’d love to live in either state but my thin southern blood doesn’t like the winters . Lol

Your aftershave smells cheap. Probably a ship on the bottle.
