"Some UK fans reportedly planned a Knoxville raid. Roadblocks were setup by students and a carload was taken hostage in exchange for Smokey, a request that fell on deaf ears."

Even UK didn't want their fans back.

"In 1955 a Tennessee undergrad arrived in Lexington for law school with press credentials and intimate knowledge of Smokey’s whereabouts. Beauchamp Brogan was the perfect inside man."

F'in attorney's.

Good story though.

Yeah, you're 25-81-9, but you stole Smokey. Nice parlor trick.

I'll take the 81 wins. Only thing in Kentucky worth stealing is your bourbon.

Go steal an elephant. Maybe that will help you feel better about Bama.

Go Vols.

Damn brother relax. Just an interesting story.

Was simpler times. The service academies have been stealing each other’s mascots even until recently. Two years ago some West Point cadets kidnapped the Air Force falcon and the bird almost died.

I guess when you have the history of Kentucky football, these are the kinds of stories you talk about among friends and pass down to the kids and grandkids. :)

Seriously though, funny story. I don’t recall ever hearing about it before.
