2020 Presidential Race

I can see that argument, but how then would a Secretary of State ever run for office?
The same way that others have? He only had to recuse himself from one responsibility: supervisor of elections, but he didn't want to do that. This is a significant responsibility of a secretary of state, but not the only responsibility. That Kemp not only didn't recuse himself from this, but was so liberal and arbitrary in his purging of voter registration rolls, is one of the most outrageous things I've ever been aware of in government. Per Greg Palast, a journalist and the director of the Palast Investigative Fund, an analysis he commissioned found that 340,134 voters were removed from the rolls on the grounds that they had moved - but they actually still live at the address where they are registered. This was a disgrace. If a Democrat was ever elected Governor by such means, Trump would say that the election had been rigged... and for once, he would be right.

It does seem like January was an eternity ago. No way that it's only been five months. It's been so chaotic, that it's easy to forget that political pundits were saying the Trump impeachment would be the dominant story of the election campaign. Hell, that's never even mentioned anymore. It's not even like an afterthought or distant memory. It's been completely forgotten.
Probably because it's MUCH more of a blight on the Dems than on Trump.

You probably won't be surprised to learn that I don't see it that way. Trump attempted to leverage military aid, authorized by Congress, to a foreign ally against their President's willingness to announce an investigation into his opponent in the 2020 General Election. That is not a "blight" on anyone but Donald J. Trump.

Meh, the GOP thinks it looks bad for Democrats. Democrats think it looks bad for Trump. It probably just looks bad on everyone honestly, but that isn't how we roll these days.
The unethical conduct was Trump's... and Trump's alone. The worst thing that Democrats can be accused of is overreach but their case was proven (per the statement of Sen. Lamar Alexander). The facts were on the side of the Democrats. Trump did exactly what he was accused of doing and it was proven... and it was inappropriate (also, per the statement of Sen. Lamar Alexander).

I'll give you a little hint. If the Democrats thought it looked bad for Trump, they'd be reminding us of it continually.

They thought it looked bad for Trump... so they impeached him. They are not going to continually talk about something so political during a pandemic that has led to mass unemployment.

It is politics, you lead/attack with what is most recent in memory. Americans have short attention spans, especially with the insane pace of crazy news this year. By November there will be some new scandals/rise of Cthulhu/whatever for both sides to pursue.

He's back! Donald Trump will hold his first post-COVID rally in Tulsa in deep-red Oklahoma - then take tour to Florida, Arizona and North Carolina with NO social distancing

Donald Trump announced Wednesday that he will hold his first rally since the coronavirus pandemic next Friday in Oklahoma, and previewed that he plans to hold three more in swing states he won in 2016.

During an unannounced event at the White House, where he was surrounded by prominent black supporters, the president repeated that he wants to get back on the campaign trail in the style of holding his stadium-filling rallies.

He said he plans to go to Florida, Arizona and North Carolina, swing states that swayed red in 2016, and deep red state of Oklahoma, which he won with 65.3 per cent of the vote last time around.

'We're going into North Carolina at the appropriate time. The governor's a little backward there, a little bit behind,' Trump said, lashing out at Democratic Governor Roy Cooper, who will not give into pressures to allow the Republican National Convention to fill a stadium for Trump's nomination acceptance speech.

California went from being the state that gave us Ronald Reagan (smashed the Berkeley riots) and Richard Nixon (president during Kent State) to the state of Gov. Gavin Newsom (celebrated Black Lives Matter mural on the mall outside the capitol) and Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti (took a knee at a BLM protest).

How did that devolution happen?

Answer: immigration. When Reagan was elected governor of California, the state was 77 percent white. Today, whites are a minority at 37 percent.

I wonder if the RNC this year will be as stilted, weird, awkward, and downright freakish as 2016.

Just an FYI, but this reads like you are saying the decline in percentage of population that is white has caused this "devolution" you speak of. That doesn't really help the narrative of you GOP folks, does it?

You are oversimplifying the matter. Yes, the immigration boom is the reason California turned into an ice blue state, but it's important to point out that California's Latino and Asian populations weren't voting for Democrats over Republicans by a significant amount until Proposition 187 passed in 1994. This measure established a state-run citizenship screening system and prohibited undocumented immigrants from using non-emergency health care, public education, and other services in the state of California. The law was challenged in a legal suit the day after its passage, and found unconstitutional by a federal court. However, for the Republican Party, the damage was forever done. Ideology aside, Proposition 187 was just really dumb politics.

Speaking of devolution, how did the Republican Party and this great nation go from a statesman like Reagan all the way down to the abomination we have in office now? Talk about bottoming out.
