2020 Presidential Race

I'm not sure why this is being covered as a surprise. It makes perfect sense that the unemployment rate would have gone down since April but that isn't from job creation. It's from people returning from furloughs.
The question should be how many jobs are permanently gone and how many people have just stopped looking for jobs?

Why does that distinction matter? It's people returning to work. That's an improvement in the economy no matter which way you look at it.

Trump got rightly blamed for many of those losses, even temporary, I dont see why he wouldnt reap any benefit of them going back too?

Trump used the words "jobs created" earlier. The reduction in unemployment isn't the result of any expansion.

Your going to be busy correcting everything he says from now until November after this panic of death from Covid is over the machine will crank up hard and Trump will be telling you how great the economy is returning .. maybe you should pace yourself .

by definition it is. a recession is a contraction and recovery is an expansion.

same as those employment #s during the Obama terms; particularly the first 4 or 5 years. by your definition those were not "jobs created" as they were merely replacing jobs that were lost to the recession.

So the expected jobs report was to lose 7.5 million but instead gained 2.5 a 10 million swing...the CNN talking point? It's a white recovery 🙄

To be fair, Trump really hammers on minority ue rates. It was an oft repeated talking point for a long time

Why is it not fair? He brags daily when it's good and they call him out when it tanks

Doubt it was the only point they made

for 1 thing, under Trump AA UE got to it's lowest rate ever and has remained there until this event.

for another, it's looking at a single point in time rather than the time in office.

It's not an objective look but whatever - it sticks it to Trump so party on.

Yeah it's all about Trump except you know I said the same things about Obama's numbers. The ue numbers are trash honestly. They are always manipulated for political gain so if he's going to brag about them then take the hit when it tanks

a better evaluation would average UE over the term

Its great that people are returning to work. Hope we see more of it.

It's a fraud to claim that people that dislike Trump necessarily want the economy to remain mired down. Its just a natural consequence of the virus.

The blame for that as to Trump is debatable. To the extent he was slow to act on the virus and to heed warnings that on him a bit. But its unknowable. Cannot be quantified with any degree of confidence.

Meh, I've got tons of reasons to vote that conman out of office. I'd rather have a strong economy and no Trump than no Trump and a weak economy. Thats probably true of the substantial majority of the country.

Agreed but Democratic leaders are on record as saying that the economy getting better is bad for them.

No. Workers returning from a 1 month furlough is not expansion.
