DJT is a blowhard, but I gotta say the more the virus stats produce a nothing burger the more I agree with his hoax assessment.

An assessment would suggest a retrospective look, Donnie called it a hoax long before they were stacking bodies. Are the stats you refer to based on effective mitigation efforts like closers, safer at home orders and social distancing or because you don't believe that the virus is a threat or both? Something else?

Fair on the word "new". We've heard about this European form for a long time.

However, this is first I've heard it called a strain - but I wonder if "strain" is significant. Is it actually a separate strain or just a genetically different form? If it has different transmission properties I think that would qualify. And, heretofore, I had not heard discussion that we had data supporting it is more virulent or harder to recover from.

But if it became the dominant strain in mid-march then wouldn't our numbers coincide? If it is that much worse the infection and death rates would likely track

I said this the other day and I stand by it, hindsight affords the luxury of your observation. Had we under reacted and scores more people had died the grousing would have been coming from a different direction. What is more important to the shining light on the hill? Hedging on the economy at the expense of human life?

I agree that Jackson Tennessee shouldn't be treated like Manhattan, but isn't it up to each state to set that tone?

Agree in parts.
Understandably we needed a cautious approach. But by week 2 or 3 in America we saw the patterns of mortality with the occasional exception thrown in. At that point caution, should give way to precaution.
