Coronavirus (No politics)

I like the idea of focusing more on the number of hospitalizations as well. It is a far more important number than just the number of cases.
It would make sense though with the drive thru testing most of those people are probably asymptomatic and if they do test positive have mild cases..might go up tomorrow with the Athens nursing home outbreak

Top E.R. Doctor Who Treated Virus Patients Dies by Suicide
Aside from work, Dr. Breen filled her time with friends, hobbies and sports, friends said. She was an avid member of a New York ski club and traveled regularly out west to ski and snowboard. She was also a deeply religious Christian who volunteered at a home for older people once a week, friends said. Once a year, she threw a large party on the roof deck of her Manhattan home.

Depends. How long are you willing to pay people to stay home.
Already paying them through the end of July. Who in their right mind would want to give up $875 a week to 'job search' to go make $10.00 an hour or less, probably without benefits, to work in a germ factory? I understand the owner-operators wanting to get back in the game, but I am guessing that most of their former employees will take full advantage of the CAREs Act and whatever follows.

Just hope and pray schools are able to open in August And everything is somewhat normal. I’ve been lucky to still be paid being a teacher, but if they shut schools down this fall, who knows what will happen.

Why is there such a difference between the CDC deaths and say the WorldoMeter and other sites? Is it just a lag in getting the official death certificates?

If they refuse to go back to their jobs they will not qualify for those benefits. That's how unemployment works.

It would be a lot easier for all of us to accept and get back to work if we just focused on Tennessee Numbers, deaths, and other issues. The hospitalizations, suicides, and healthcare systems in NY are different. Population density is a huge factor. This NY situation only provides indicators, but these are not the facts as to what Tennessee may or may not be facing. Common Sense is not governing the situation at home.

I hate that a Doctor in NY committed Suicide and we have had a few suicides in Tennessee, but there may not be any direct correlation between the two states or the reasons for it, but somebody will have an OMG moment with the story. It's bad in major highly dense populated cities, just look at Tennessee. The data will eventually tell the story. In the Nashville area we are experiencing a growing migration of Californians of which may eventually change the ideology of our state which to me is depressing.

The media has broadcasted the NY Covid 19 pandemic and applied it across the board like it was our frontlines, which we know it is not.

We have tested and tested. We know the rules and should follow them when out in public. Open back up continue testing and keep those fragile at home. Of course, there will be idiots that will not follow the rules when in public.

We can have a strong economy and defeat this virus, NY and other states may not be able to recover if they continue to deal with Pandemic the same way.

The Media needs to apply to NY what is NY and to other states what is to other states. Too much chaos, confusion, fear, and panic shoveled down our throats because of what has happened in NY. The media is a smaller version of Chicken Little and it sells advertising with sound bites.

Amen!

One more thought to an earlier post. We need to adapt our lifestyles to the situation versus letting the Pandemic completely change our lifestyles. It takes sacrifice to do so, but it buys time for better solutions and it will only be temporary vs longterm. It will also prepare us for future events because the CCP allowed this to happen so we would be in the same boat together. Others may weaponize this type of biological warfare because we are a threat. We need to learn the lessons of this event and hopefully we will be better prepared in the future.

I don't know all the ins and outs of it but I have heard that the weekly certification process has been vastly simplified to default in favor of people retaining benefits. Again, a bit outside my area, but I understood that only large employers furlough employees.

I think you are right regarding large companies. My problem with the stimulus check is that a person that worked 40 hours a week gets $600 from the Government and a person that worked 20 hours a week gets $600.

There should have been a graduated scale based upon the number of hours a person worked a week. 40 hours = $600, 30 = $450, 20 hours = $300.

No way should an employee who works 10 - 15 hours per week receive $600 for being furloughed or out of a job. Another lesson learned.

As the parent of a 15 year old drawing unemployment (refs soccer/baseball games), I 100% agree. He's making much more now than he ever did working. Horrible lesson to teach an entitled generation.

Make sure there is withholding. It's taxable income.

Yeah, we've got a plan for the funds. He gets 30% as long as grades stay up/grass stays cut (That % closely represents what he would have got paid if he worked). His little sis gets 30% for her savings and he gets 30% for his savings. The other 10% is for taxes.

Craziness... Alabama apparently didn't do enough testing to qualify for Phase 1..so no churches and no dine in restaurants until at least May 15th IMG_20200428_121734.jpg
