Coronavirus (No politics)

I actually got to give that to a patient I was taking care of today. 41 y.o male, pretty benign health history, transferred to ER from UCC for cough/SHOB/fever x 3 weeks. Just looking at this guy.....he didn't "look" sick. A/O x 4, BP normal, HR 120's, RR 40 but not labored, 102.6 fever. He's talking in complete sentences, watching TV, etc....and his O2 sat won't go above 92% on NRB. Labs were unremarkable, but chest X-ray showed significant bilateral peripheral infiltrates. Initial ABG pH 7.48 CO2 28 (maybe...don't remember exact number, but only slightly low) O2 45!! Of course, he wound up intubated and his next gas looked a whole lot better and then further into the evening, I got to hang the tocilizumab. I'm sure he'll still be in the ER when I get back there in the morning, so I'll update what I can find out.

Wow, please report back.

Feed yours at the expenseof others?
Go ahead and admit it.
All career capitalist want, and are betting on, finishing above others

Yep, pretty much. I figure if the majority of the world is impoverished and destitute, that bodes well for my family. Thus my devious desire to see people be able to go back to work.

Putting 1200 dollars into the pockets to those that never have any extra is not a good mix with stay at home orders. Seems even the Cali folks have had it

I’ve seen people (not dealing with coronavirus) who looked sicker, who’s vitals said they were sicker, and they got better during their ER stay and didn’t even have to be admitted. This guy is fairly young, healthy, and will probably die. With him breathing 40+ times per minute, you could expect his pH to be 7.48, if not higher, due to hyperventilating, and a low CO2 level, which would suggest respiratory alkalosis, BUT..... you would also expect his O2 to be through the roof. This guy couldn’t get oxygen to his bloodstream. That’s not good.

What’s his ethnicity?

Its not new and I would venture to say that, as you know, its pretty common these days
The stupidest thing about all of these people is that the great majority of them are already retired or otherwise not working and are only bitching for everyone to stay home so that they can selfishly go to the diner at 6 AM again. They're always the people that can most afford to be at home.

Then the other stupid assumption is that anyone that will go out is doing it "at the expense of someone's life" as if every time I go out I'm directly killing someone. It's the laziest, most intellectually dishonest "argument" anybody can make.

Yea, Im going outside and thats all there is to it. I'm going to Wal-mart if I have to and DGAF who likes it or who dont. I will keep my distance out of respect for others but those same people should respect me for providing for my family.

Thanks, I understood that.

Evolution is still working so people can do what they want as far as I'm concerned. The argument they are making is the same as the one for mountain climbers. They take a risk, fall, and then someone has to risk their life for no reason to save them. I am not going to save anyone but I bet the doctors and nurses in New York have a different opinion. The main difference with this virus is its ability to create carriers who don't even know they are sick but can infect others. In any case we will be working agin soon it looks like.

I wonder if it would be justifiable to shoot someone who comes within six feet of you while you're running an essential errand? Probably just a matter of time before it happens.

Give it a try, let us know how it works out for ya.
I'm in the bunker, so if anyone comes in here I have the castle doctrine on my side. My 80-yo mother-in-law is with us and she's about to blow a gasket over the stay at home protests and the thought of reopening in May. People who are in vulnerable populations are looking at this stuff in much more life and death terms than many of the rest of us.

Probably borders on political, but I doubt that Lee is too worried about what people in Knoxville think. I suspect that part of the reason Boyd didn't get the nomination is that some people were tired of being threatened by a certain person's personal wealth. Lots of people are happy that the chain was broken.

Your MIL sounds like my MIL and my MIL is the most the most self-centered selfish person I have ever met.
